Anyone have any suggestions for a good non restricted 5.56mm Semi auto? I saw that M96, but am wondering if there is something cheaper out there, Thanks

The cheapest option right now is the AR-180B. Wolverine Supplies have 'em for under $1100.00. They're non-restricted and you can use AR-15 mags in them. The M-96 are well made rifles, however, the manufacturer has devoted most of their production capacity to the new XCR, so M-96 production has been vastly scaled back if not completely ended. New rifles are difficult to obtain here in Canada as I understand it. If you had money to burn, the cadillac of non-restricted rifles is the Sig/Swiss Arms PE-90 sold in Canada in various configurations such as the "Classic Green," "Black Special," "Red Devil," etc...However, you're looking at $2999.00 not including tax!:) If you're really pinching pennies, you might want to look at a Ruger Mini-14, but I wouldn't recommend it since you wanted a "good" non-restricted. The Ruger is a stout, well-built rifle, but its out of the box accuracy is more than wanting and requires many expensive tweaks to improve accuracy/performance. Hope this helps.

Carl G kicked ass the one time I got to pop off two rounds from one... No problem at all hitting 300m targets from kneeling!

Of course, the tasrgets were old M113's...

Pete I just bought a Heckler and Koch SL8. It looks like a Super Soaker and does not look as good as the classic AR-15. I got it from the folks at Wolverine for $2050.00. A lot of the guys deride the gun because it does not have the mean look of the AR or other cool assault rifles.

I had the Mini-14 as a kid and loved it. Back in those days you could buy 30 round mags for them legally and it was an absolute hoot at the range or in the gopher patch. I got a few gophers and crows with it and it vapourized them.

The AR guys are spoiled; they have good looking guns and they shoot even better than they look...but there is something to be said for not having to worry about the cops if you want to shoot gophers or coyotes.

Thanks for the Reply's guys...
I too am a little spoiled, Just got back from overseas, and have been carrying a heavy barreled C8 for the past 7 months... But I only have a non restricted PAL. So, I think I am actually going to go to 7.62 and buy a norinco M14 and then MOD the hell out of it. Most of the Rifles suggested look as though they cannot be tampered with, and I would like to modify whatever I buy. Great suggestions though guys and thanks for the info.

Huh? It can be made to look like the G36. Sure it does. I'm hesitant because of the dreaded crack.

Ok, why is a SIG assault rifle non restricted but an AR is??? What is the difference if you get an AR with a 20" barrel. I never understood this marginalization of AR's.
