Does anyone have any experience with polymer/wood/plastic reactive targets such as the ones made by Newbold? Or make your own?

The reason I bring this up is because my range does not allow steel targets for unsupervised activities. I shoot IPSC but if I am training by myself there is no way to practice poppers. Plus it would be fun to have reactive targets in any case.

I'm in the same situation in Québec... still looking for non-steel targets for IPSC practices... ;)

Doesn't seems any of them would hold 223 tho. Still, would really like to try thoses.

That would be awesome if they did. It sounds from their FAQ that their targets would take a hit but they say that it wouldn't necessarily cause them to react. Like it would shoot through and you wouldn't know.

I was test firing a couple 7" Hera ARs (556) in my test range this afternoon and the newbold targets I keep at the bottom of the backstop were wiggling.
Not laying down like they do with my pistol stuff, mind you - and since the ragne is only 40', it's easy for me to see them wiggle.
You wouldn't notice at 50 yards.

We had polymer poppers at CFSAC in 2007 or 8 IIRC. The ones we had were god awful. They were blowing down in the wind, not falling when hit. On the stage I was running we ended up calling out hits so the shooter could move on. That was the year George won the Queens Medal I believe. I think the military got rid of them after the shoot. I should add they were the standard popper shape.

Take Care

Do you recommend them otherwise? How are they lasting?

Do you think they would be more noticeable if they were swinging targets? Or like a duelling tree?

My daughter primarily shoots them with 22s, I send the odd centerfire round at them. They are holding up pretty well.
If they were hanging instead of standing up, you probably would see them move more.
