I have a beautiful Zabala Hermanos SLE which I would like to use on waterfowl.

I will not use steel, would like some info on what is currently considered the best lead alternatives and what is available in Canada.

I recently asked about this at the Wholesale Sports in Kamloops, B.C. and received blank looks for my trouble. You can have lead or you can have steel.

Is bismuth still available in loaded cartridges?: Is tungsten/matrix?

Of these, which is softer?

Anyone know of any dealers for this stuff in B.C.? Any chance of finding it it 16ga?

Thanks, eh?

Do you handload?
I use Nice Shot in my antique double hammer guns that i shoot - I also shoot black powder.
That combination drops geese with no problem!
I have a a friend who just came back from down south , and using ITX shot in his 16 gauge he was shooting and killing as well as the big 3.5 12's on geese.
You can buy this stuff from Will Bilozir at Bilozir.net

Any dealer who stocks Kent ammunition should be able to get you 16 gauge Tungsten Matrix, it's in their Upland line.

The only trouble with this solution is that dealers pre-book in the early spring
their Fall Ammo and get a better price on it.
Come fall time they either have enough ammo in stock or they call the suppliers and see what is available in the wharehouse.
You may find some Non-Toxic there or you might find it at the next Hunting/Sporting Goods Store.
There is a guy on the EE Ammo section selling some Matrix/Non-Toxic , but his Eastern Local escapes me right now as does the Gauge, but iirc his asking price is reasonable, shipping will be the deal breaker for us here in BC.

No bismuth loaded shells are available at present. If I remember correctly the founder of the company that was making the shot died and the company folded. Bismuth or Tungsten Matrix or Nice shot will all serve you well and will not damage your fine gun. I have hoarded a case of Kent TM 5's for duck and light goose duty from my various 16 ga. doubles. It works very well.

Any good dealer should be able to get you ammo any time of the year. Fall is the peak for sure but I have never had a problem getting specialty ammunition at this time of year.

NICE shot is not so nice on the wallet at $80 a KG and can be loaded to only 10,500cup safely........per Hodgon's...................Harold

My point was not directed at you or the business that you buy from.
My buddy in his shop buys $50,000 worth of shotgun ammo a year, Federal, Kent ,Winchester, etc...
When it comes hunting season and he runs low he is at the mercy of his suppliers... The price goes up accordingly.
That is all, just saying, not directed at you or the O/P.

There is not a lot of problem finding a load that will work very well for ducks and geese and still be within the pressure limits.

Thanks very much, all of you, much appreciated.

Just one more little thing....

I was reading somewhere lately, can't for the life of me remember where, and the writer was disparaging t/m as not being all it's cracked up to be, saying it is still hard on barrels. Anybody heard this?
