My local gun shop(in vancouver) said their SKSs are produced, test fired then stored, all parts are matched and sale for $209 plus tax. I looked at the ones on shlef, they look like pertty new with only one or 2 miner scratch on them.
I went to another store and their SKS looks really been used for a while and for $199.

$209 for a "new" SKS is really a good deal but is this too good to be true?

These are "new" unfired since arsenal refurb and being packed in cosmoline. There are varying grades of refurb though, from just a stock replaced to major parts like barrel, bolt bolt carrier, gas tube and piston replaced etc. Without pics it's hard to say for sure.

You will want to take that with a grain of salt. If there is a little 3mm square with a line from the left lower corner to the right upper corner anywhere on the rifle, including the butt or action cover, usually just below the date, the rifle will have been through a factory thorough repair. It will be in as new condition, inside and out. It will not however be new in grease unissued since manufacture. Now, this only goes for the European or Russian versions. Rare as hens teeth and would command a much higher price on the market.

If it is Chinese, there is a very good chance it hasn't been issued since manufacture. I really suspect you are comparing the price of FTRed Russian rifles to New Chinese rifles. No difference in quality. It seems to me that most Chinese SKS rifles have press fit barrels. I could be wrong on this assumption though. Maybe someone with more knowledge on these could jump onboard.

Well, again, I appear to totally off base.

I just looked at Weimajack's ad on the EE. He is claiming to have several unissued SKS rifles for a similar price as the OP mentioned. Snap it up, these won't last long.

If you have the choice between a Russian SKS and a Chinese SKS.....go for the Russian one , they are a better firearm for the money...

Refurbed SKS's from Russia may also have a 'swipe' mark in the finish of the dust cover, looks like someone used an eraser on a piece of paper. As far as Chinese SKS's go, the military produced Chinese SKS is as good as any you'll run into - early commercial guns are "OK" and late commercial guns are best...................................left on the shelf.

For those interested, I just received one of the so called "unissued" SkS's from Weimajack. From what I see, he is true to his word. I have a refurbished SKS and there is a big difference between the 2. The unissued gun has all the correct markings on the left side of the stock including arsenal symbol, year and serial number. All markings are clear as a bell. The stock is the proper reddish color and has not been sanded. In fact, there is only one little scuff on the whole gun. The receiver is blued metal, not painted black. I can see no refurbish marks. The bore is super nice. All parts have matching stamped numbers, including the stock, and there is no electropencil markings. I think for $195.00 they are a great deal. So much so that I just finished ordering one for my future son in law. Anyone looking for a nice SKS better grab one in my opinion.

As an owner of multiples of both, the Russian guns are more nicely finished but there is nothing wrong with a Chinese model either. Both go bang whenever you pull the trigger, and reports ironically have the Chinese as having an edge in the accuracy department.

Chinese ones are indeed a little more accurate in my experience. Probably because 95% of the Chinese ones you'll buy from a store were never fired god knows how many times and then refurbished. It's not a massive difference, but it can be noticeable.
