so i want to get into some sort of competition, but im not exactly sure what the various events or games or what ever you call them are. I was liking the idea of CQD from some of the pics and stuff ive seen. I live in the east end of the GTA just for reference, in case anyone knows of anything in the area. Also what kind of gear am i going to need, currently i have an AR-180b-2 with a t-dot and thats about it. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi! If you want to get into CQB, get yourself a tactical vest with room for at least 3 mags, a pistol, 2 mags and holster, and 5-6 magazines for your primary (3 in the vest, 1 in the gun, and 1-2 spares).

The pistol is not necessary, but it's much more interesting with one :D

Also, I advise you to buy a good 2 point sling for your AR, and bring lots of ammo!

A few years ago the Operational Shooting Association (OSA) had access to the Milcun Shooting Complex which is east and north of GTA. Hungry and a few others were promoting their group for service rifle competition training, as opposed to the Ontario Rifle Association (ORA). There was some politics between the bolt action shooters and the semi-auto shooters. I don't know how things have changed in the meantime.

But, until you have fired a few matches and scrubbed your elbows in the muck, you really don't know what kind of shooting you like. The DCRA match syllabus is quite challenging, and there is something there to humiliate every shooter.

Well, you could learn to shoot at the Union Station handgun club.. Ohh, wait, they closed that to prevent "gun crime"... Maybe you should consider moving out of the GTA.. LOL

I'm sure Hungry will help you out! :) Welcome to the "game".

Get a MOLLE pattern vest and buy some cheap pouches. You'll find it will be better for you if you can move the pouches around on your vest to suit your game. Also, if you decide to shoot pistol one weekend and no rifle, you don't need to lug the entire vest, just take off the rifle mag pouches and slap on pistol mag pouches. Truly functional! :)

Check with Farmboys store (One shot tactical) or fleabay. One shot tactical's stuff is better quality, but more expensive. You can get some cheap stuff on fleabay that will probably do the trick for playing the game.

Look for used gear. I got into an HSGI weesach for $90 just by looking around. Although its sacriligious, register over on Airsoftcanada (don't be a prick there or you'll be banned). Those guys change gear so often there is always used gear at good prices.

Good used gear will last you much longer then cheap crap, it takes a rich man to buy cheap stuff.

Since your operating on a budget maybe you should talk with these people and see how much the consumables (IE ammo) is going to cost to play these games. It's no good having all the gear and no money to play with it.
Cheers,
Grant

Ok i bought the mags i needed today now for something to carry the mags in. I'm not using a pistol and wont be for about a year still so i was wondering about actualy needing an entire chest rig. Would a belt with a set of mag pouches work? Something like this http://www.oneshottactical.com/merc...t&Product_Code=MP-ICEM44&Category_Code=MP-RMP

Or a MOLLE compatible belt?
This is one area i haven't got any experience in and its overwhelming !

dudley2112: I'm a fan of MOLLE vests and gear. That link to the ICE 4 Mag M4 mag pack is great and yes... that is a great unit for your vest. Buy what works for your budget and game! And not to mention your style (LCV... look cool value) ;)

Fabsport my have what U R looking for....

Modular Chest Set (Black - OD Green - Tan)-(COND-CS) all that for $ 49.99.....

You'll find a link to Fabsports at the top.... It's the section Gun Case / Cases.

;)

PERFECT!!!! thanks a million, ive been looking at allot of vests and the position of the mag pockets on alot of them looked really awkward but that one seems right up my alley.

The whole point of the MOLLE system is that it is infinitely adaptable to whatever configuration you might need. That makes it a better idea than anything with pouches fixed in place.
