Yeah my first AR I decided to put a magpul grip on it before taking it to the range. Whipped the crappy grip off and then opened the box to get out the new one, glanced at the instructions, noticed a warning to be sure to capture the safety detent and spring. Wtf, there was a spring in there? I didn’t even see which direction it headed in my cluttered disaster of a workshop. Quick google search and I discovered the flint spring in a bic lighter could be used in a pinch so that’s what I used.

I launched one across the room and I heard it drop into the register. I thought "it's gone now for sure". I looked inside the register cover......and the damper was closed with the detent sitting on top. Carefully lifted out the register cover and got the detent back. Bought a lottery ticket immediately after, which I did not win.

Did something similar with a Luger firing pin retainer once. Found the retainer about 2 weeks later.

I've got dark puzzle foam on the floor in my basement where I work on my guns/reload. I've been meaning to go back to Can Tire and buy the kids bright colour ones so anything I drop will contrast much better. Course, doesn't help if you launch it into the fifth dimension of torment.
