I have what I believe to be a pretty basic question about parkerizing. Is it possible to sandblast some parts which I wish to parkerize, and then not parkerize hem for 3 or 4 hours? To prevent oxidization, would it be possible to soak in oil during this time.

The idea is to get the freshly blasted steel into the Parkerizing solution ASAP before the steel begins to oxidize. If you are living in a fairly low humidity area 3-4 hrs might be OK. Whatever you do, do not apply oil to the blasted steel surface. 100% oil removal, incl fingerprints, is key to successful Parkerizing. Once parts are de-oiled I handle them with heavy duty rubber gloves for blasting and then with de-oiled stainless steel tongs to immerse and remove them in the Parkerizing solution.

Freshly blasted steel is chemically clean, and will oxidize readily. Best practice is to park sooner, rather than later.
