When I register a firearm, what part of the rifle is actually being registered. Is it the receiver. If I significantly modify a rifle, do I have to re-register it. I'm not talking about illegal mods but changing barrels, stocks, etc.?

the receiver is the part that is registered but i beleive that if you change the overall length or caliber or barrel lentgh for a time greater then 7 days it has to be re-verified and re registered but check with CFC to be sure

The time frame is 30 days....

The reciever is the registered part, but if you alter the firearm in any significant (documented details) way (for instance barrel length, calibre, etc)

Then you have 30 days to notify the CFC. (It says so on the registration certificate.) They will likely ask you to have it verified. Its not really re-registering it as updating its registration.

If you don't make permanent changes or change the gun around more often than every 30 days then its a potential loophole avoiding the requirement. Provided its original configuration is still one of the variants it takes every 30 days.
