Noob technical issues(M1/M70)

I stripped my M1 down to give it a full cleaning and lube for the first time. The piece in the photo although tightly fit, was removed relatively easily but I can’t for the life of me get it to click back in like it does seemingly effortlessly in tutorials I have watched. Is there something I’m missing? Judging by the finish of the part, it is a cheap reproduction.

For my model 70. The bolt is jammed in this position and will not budge a mm either direction. There is a shell in the chamber and I’m kind of nervous to get to rammy with it. I know there’s probably some eye rolling going on but would like to figure out these two issues. Thanks
 
On the Garand, the bullet guide will fit, but sometimes it just needs a tap with a plastic hammer of piece of hardwood to seat it fully. Hard to tell from the pic, but if there is a burr on the lugs that fit into the receiver notches it can be cleaned up with a fine file. One of the secondary purposes of the bullet guide is to keep the "legs" of the receiver separated.

On the M70, is the ctg in the cambered fired or live? A tap on the bolt handle with a piece of 2x4 should move it to the rear. Make sure the bolt handle is fully elevated/open first.
 
Thanks for the reply, I figured the bullet guide issue would be solved with a file. I’ll make sure to go easy on it and already tried a rubber mallet to get it back in.
The 70 has a live round I believe my mistake was that I just dropped a shell into the chamber and closed the bolt rather than load one into the magazine and cycle the action, properly loading the gun. I’ll try the 2x4
 
Your M70 looks to be one of the later models with the sliding extractor recessed in the bolt head, rather than the external claw style extractor. When you get the bolt out it would be a good idea to check the extractor for free movement as they can become fouled and seized if allowed to accumulate crud and dirt. A M70 with the sliding/recessed extractor (push feed as opposed to controlled round feeding with a claw style extractor) should feed, chamber and extract a round without a problem provided the extractor works freely and the chamber isn't fouled.
