Hi all!

June 18 - 19th, Bridgeport rod and gun club has the honor of hosting a trap shooting clinic hosted by record holder Nora Ross. I'm told this is the best $300 anyone interested in trap shooting will ever spend.
Day one - focused on singles
Day two - emphasis on doubles and handicap.

I've seen the results of some of these drills. With doubles in particular, her past students are on their targets faster than I can believe.

I wanted to put the word out that there are still a few spots available. The clinic is limited to 10 people, and we're close to that number. If you're interested in attending, send me a PM, and I'll put you in touch with the co-ordinator.

Details are:

Hosted at Bridgeport Rod and Gun club.
$300 USD. $150 USD deposit is required to hold your spot.
Shooters are responsible for their own targets and ammunition.

Good shooting! :shotgun:

A little about Nora.

I have signed up for this clinic, and am looking forward to it.

Anyone here attend a clinic (Nora's or others)?

What can I expect to learn?

Most importantly, can I realistically expect an increase in my scores??

Thanks in advance for any info/advice you can share based on your own experiences.

I don't shoot much trap so have not attended Nora's clinic. I have gone to a few others however. Don't be discouraged if your scores to go down initially. There will be a lot of new information for your to process and apply. Think of it as one step backwards to take two steps forward. Eventually you'll notice the benefits.

I've never worked with Nora as I'm a skeet shooter (although I'm sure I'd still get a lot out of such a clinic), but I have taken professional instruction on a few occasions.

I highly recommend seeing seeking professional help (from a known good source), no matter how much experience you have, or how well you shoot.

The format an instructor takes vary.

Perhaps you will start with a gun fit session.

You may shoot a practice round so that your shooting can be analyzed.

I would expect an emphasis on strong basics. Foot position and hold points.

I would expect some 1 on 1 instruction on points you need to improve upon.

Bring a notebook. Often there is so much information you will receive, it would be difficult to simply remember it.

Think ahead of time if you have weaknesses you would like to address

Ask questions.

Keep an open mind. Sometimes you may be asked to make changes in the way you do things. There is probably a good reason for it.

Will your scores go up? That depends on you. If you incorporate recommended changes into your game, it wouldn't be unusual for your scores to initially go down. It can be hard to keep working on the changes when you see this, but over time your scores should go up.

I've been very fortunate with the instruction I've taken. I made some serious changes the first time around, and had immediate success.

I also had a session where I focused on a particular part of the game (doubles). I initially struggled after incorporating the instruction, but over time I saw significant improvement.

I know shooters who have taken instruction who probably wish they hadn't. It is possible that the style of coaching simply doesn't match ones shooting style. Sometimes people don't have an open mind and are unwilling to make the required changes.

Personally, I'm a proponent of it, and I feel the instruction I've taken is money well spent, and something I will continue to do.

I've had Nora's clinic and I have also had private lessons. She is an excellent teacher and fabulous shooter. She hasn't shot registered targets in the last couple of years and did again last weekend. She shot 7 events and won every ladies trophy in all 7 events.

All of the top shooters that give clinics bring something different to the table. Most of the information they present is valuable and can be used by all shooters, but there are some differences. Some work for some people and not for others. A student needs to try them, evaluate them and keep the things that work.

My bottom line is that, if my Grandkids express a real interest in trap shooting ... I will pay for them to take Nora's clinic.
