I know the Commander is Parkerized and has a 4.25" barrel, whereas the Government is blued and has a 5" barrel.... but other than those, are there any other differences in the designs? Do either have any advantages over the other for a range gun? Recoil? Do both accept all standard 1911 parts? Beavertail? etc... I have been looking for a good site on the internet to answer this question but have had no luck so far.

Man, I just sent in the order for my Glock today, and am already pining for a Norc 1911. Seems I have been bitten by the handgun bug....

Must be all the IPSC videos I've been watching on YouTube.

Thanks

You can go to 1911forum but don't say it's a norc.

Most parts are interchangable except the barrel and slide. I think the ejector may be slightly different to compensate for the shorter cycling of the commander.

The springs are different as well.

I love commanders and shoot them better than the 5" guns.

I find the commander lengths look better and have a nicer balance to them. I am very happy with my Norc commander.

Yeah, the Yanks are a little testy when it comes to new Norc 1911's. Especially, since they can't even get the latest generation of Norc compacts [commanders]....

But then again, look at the stuff they can get that we can't have... :(

For me it's the opposite. I actually prefer the full size 1911's. But I do have a couple commanders... including a NIB new series Norc compact. They did a nice job on their latest effort. Hopefully, the slow boat will get here soon with a new shipment of compacts and NP-29's...

The last bunch of Norc Commanders that came in were blued, not parkerized, they were fitted with a beavertail (not perfect but it works). Norc .45's accept all the parts a Colt Series 70 Commander would except the grip screw bushings - the screws themselves work fine.
