Norc 1911 muzzle brake info

There are units which simply replace the bushing, and are therefore easy to install. They tend to be not very efficient though, because end port has to be larger than the barrel diameter.
 
gansguns lists a whole bunch of compensators...

There are 4 kinds., screw on,press fit, solder and bushing replacement...

As Tiriaq mentions the bushing replacements really don't do a whole lot... Screw on you can do but you need a threaded barrel first the other 2 can be done by the individual but are better done my a competent smith like RK...

common ones are the 3, 4 and 5 port beats...

The problem with putting one on a 1911 is that you need a good barrel first... the 1911 really doesn't need a comp for 45 ammo... 38 super maybe... the comp has a tendency to really beat up the slide and the rails... Barrel links are another part that wears faster....

By your question I'm going to guess your new to all this...
And your question doesn't state what or why you are trying to accomplish....
Before you butcher you gun ... Shoot it for a while...
