Hi all - I just noticed what seems to be some odd wear on the guide rod on my full size Norinco 1911. I'd appreciate any advice if you have any ideas.
This pistol has been modified from stock configuration: Among other irrelevant modifications, it currently has a 20lb recoil spring, Wilson shok-buff, and the guide rod is one that I cut down to standard length from the original full length guide rod.
It seems like something is causing the rounded tip of the guide rod to mar and develop quite a rough surface. I've polished it off a couple times now, but the roughness keeps reappearing. I don't notice any functional difference, but it's probably not a good thing to have roughness in that area. Here's what it looks like up close, but you can't see it so much as feel it:
When I installed it, the radius of this guide rod was perfectly polished with 600 grit. Now, there are rough edges on the 'bottom' (dust cover side) of the radius.
It seems like it is associated with some rubbing on the inside of the dust cover, and something a little funky with the recoil spring (see pics).
