Finally got the chance to take the Norc 1911A1 I bought from Gunnar, who smoothed it out a bit, to the range today. Fired 20 rounds to familiarize myself with the sights, grip, recoil, etc. Then switched to a new target, put 10 rounds in it, out of the 10 rounds 8 went through the center cycle. 1 was just outside of the center, and 1 flier, which was a result of me flinching. All this was done at about 15 yards. I was pretty amazed of the accuracy of a $450 gun. Only mod I added to it was the full length ss guide rod, commander type hammer, walnut grips, extended mag extractor and a mag well. All of which had little to do with accuracy of the gun.
While I find the gun to be very accurate, for a newbie like me to shoot as well as I did it's gotta be the gun.
Anyway, while the accuracy was very satisfying, the gun did have a couple of feeding jams. I found that I had to hold the gun very tight for it to cycle right. If I held it loosely the gun would fail to feed. When the ammo fail to feed, it is almost always halfway in the chamber and easily ejected. From the ejected ammo, which failed to feed I could see marks where the ammo hit the feeding ramp (frame). And add the stock Norc's signature griddy-ness, there's my feeding prob.
After I got home I filed down the ramp just a little bit and it fed much smoother. Well it's a Norc after all I don't expect it to operate silky smooth but I still wished it wouldn't have the feeding prob in the first place. I expect the gun to cycler a lot better after more rounds are fed into it.
I like this gun better than the Glock 17 I have. For some reason the 9mm gun seemed to have jumped just as much as the .45 if not more.
Anyone who has a aluminium trigger, SS highride beavertail, SS commander style hammer, SS wide safety, SS one piece mainspring housing with mag well, and SS slide stop (all of which has to be shinny, or hard chromed) please pm me.
