Norc 780 with Rem 870 barrel compatibility

whats different between the 780 barrels and the 870 barrels then? if its a major difference, then yes, i am royally screwed if i want to put a longer barrel on my Norc- however, if its only a minor detail (like a few thousandths of an inch off), could it be machined down? (if physically possible?)

It's not a Homeland security 780 barrel, that's an HP9 14" barrel. They fit fine on 870's.
