Does anyone have any experience with norc commanders ?
i have owned a couple of 5" norc gov models but never a commander i have been told they are parkerized any other differences ?
could someone post a picture of one on here please ?any pictures of stock models or customized would be appreciated.

The one pictured also appears to have aftermarket full lenght recoil spring rod and different mainspring housing. The original grips are a wrap around rubber. I like the looks of those grips in the pic, really smartens up the look of the pistol over the stock rubber ones.

That Norc compact was was pretty much stock. Had a oversize mag release button [larger button was threaded into a stock one so you could easily remove it - left a little hole though that could be filled with a screw]. The mainspring housing was a flat checkered steel one that also had an integral extended magazine housing that could be removed. [Pic shows the extended mag well out]. And of course the full length guide rod. Checkered Colt medallion stocks came outta my parts box. :wink:

The Norc 1911A-1 Compact shot very well. Got it off CGN & sold it to another CGN member when I bought a real Colt Combat Commander.

Just so I know the diff - the Commander has a shorter barrel than the Government model (4.25 inches compaired to 5.00 inches) and has a different hammer from what I can see. Anything else? What about the difference in Finish (ricka2 said parkerized?)?

In the pics that NAA posted, his Colt looks a lot more shiny than the Norinco, looks like stainless steel to me. Does Norinco have a stainless model?
 
Well my Nork Commander isn't parkerized it is blued. Had Gunner do a little work on it as you can see. Gun is a real shooter, my bedside campanion without a gun lock!

What'd the work that Gunnar did set you back?(if you don't mind me askin)
 
You might want to check out the 1911 Forum on FLGR. From my readings on the subject there isvirtually no benefit going to a FLGR. In short it is a solution to a non existant problem. The downside to one is it makes disassembly of the gun gun somewhat more complicated and if a two piece the need for an allen key if you go two piece.

I have one and don't use it, I have shot my gun from a rest with and without the FLGR and from an accuracy stand point cold determine no difference.

To answer your question check out Ebay, there usually FLGR for sale there.

About the only thing I have heard good about the FLGR is that it makes 'smiths a little pocket change no and then.

I have one...and you might be dissappointed depending on if you get a good one or not. Buy from a place with a rock solid return policy in case you get a lemon(there are a fair percentage of those being sold right now).
 
I have one, prepped by Gunnar Christensen, who also posts here.
It works better and and the trigger is lighter than the "out of the box" models after Gunnar's touch up and by gosh, the price is right.
 
Yes I have the NP 29 and it is a great little shooter. The 1911 in 9MM is a great gun to shoot. The NP 29 has slightly better sights than the A1, comes with a beavertail and extended slide release.

MIne is very accurate. Compared to my Trojan in 9MM the fit and finish is obviously not the same quality but the gun shoot POA and has yet to have a problem. If you get one install a 11# recoil spring in it for sure. This will ensure the slide will lock back after last round fired. This is a problem with the 9MM in 1911 format. My Trojan had a 14# spring in it and it was simply to heavy.

MAy improve the sights on my Nork and have a trigger job done on it but otherwise the guns are good to go.

You won't be disappointed. Great for IDPA.

I have the NP-29 model. Just got it about a few weeks ago. http://www.marstar.ca/gf-norinco/1911A1-NP-29.shtm

I got it used from a guy here on CGN. The only negative thing about it, is that the trigger seems to be a little stiff/sticky (certainly different weight from my 1911AC .45 Norc) - don't know if the previous owner had it modified or not. Also, I find that after the last shot in the mag, it does not hold the slide back in the open position. Don't know if it's a fault of the magazine itself (have 3 - all seem to do it, but not all the time; just most) or something in the gun.

Having said all that, I've only shot 100 rounds of LRN since I've had it; so I'll reserve full judgement until I've shot a little more.

So it's not perfect, but it was a good price, and it seems to shoot good.

If I had to give it a rating on a 10 scale - I'd give it a 7.5

Well I don't think it took me 42 minutes to write that reply, but Canuck44's post wasn't there when I started... anyway - Thanks for that post Canuck44 - you may have just solved one or both of the issues I've had with this firearm... :)
 
We shoot IDPA type shooting up here. Our group is to small to bother registering with IDPA HQ. Shoot all summer and into fall. Great fun.
