Looking to get into the budget AR category, bang for the buck I know both are winners, my concern is accuracy?

Is the Norc is as accurate as the NEA for $400 more?

Thx

p.s. The NEA is a freefloat last I heard.

Yes Free float should be more accurate. But are you getting a better product then a NORC for extra 400$? id like to say yes, but I can not say that anymore. I handled Norcs and I like them.

freefloat vs not freefloat wont make a huge difference up to 300 meters I would think. I prefer freefloat on precision rifles, but a 14.5 norc was never meant to be long range. Both will hit to 400 yards with good optics and good skills.

Will the bullet be effective at that range?????????

Looking for people that can compare both because they had both I guess.

I can't help you specifically, as I have owned neither... But I can tell you this. About a week ago I started looking seriously for an AR. I, like you, was stuck in the boat between the two rifles (Norc vs NEA). I asked a ton of questions, snooped around on the forums for about 40 hours in total, looked at dealers etc. Finally, I called up a friend who has a Norc, and asked to meet him down at the range for a Norinco Test Shoot

Now I have never owned an AR, but I have shot a few prior to the Norc. I don't even know how "in to" this gun I am going to be, so if I can spend that extra $400 on ammo and goodies, I am all for it (assuming the Norc is a good product). Well, for what I am to use this gun for, I feel it FAR EXCEEDED my expectations.

Despite what I had read about bad accuracy and a ####ty finish, I would argue both. Bad accuracy... As appose to what? A $2500 gun... Okay, maybe. But I am never going to spend that on my first AR. It's not a money thing, it's a smarts thing lol. I did free standing, and bench shooting and it was putting holes right where the red dot was. I could spell my name with this gun.

Finish... Again, probably not to the standards of a Larue, but absolutely nothing wring with it. If you really want to upgrade the finish, you can have it duracoated for about $80 return shipped. On top of that, I prefer the solid black of the Norinco as appose to the charcoal grey of the NEA.

Final thought is this. If I had to take it overseas to war, I would spend the extra money. Not just the $400, but as much as I could possibly spend to get the absolute BESt rifle I could afford. But... My life is not on the line with this rifle. I just want to have some fun at the range, and be a step ahead of most when the zombies come (joking).

On a final thought, NEA has been getting some negative attention lately. I have no idea what it's all about, as I am new to black rifles. But for a guy who just bought his first AR on Tuesday, all these "NEA quality Issue" threads did deter me. Probably an awesome product, but so is the Norinco in my opinion.

Best of luck with oyur decision, and please post some pics when she arrives.

I would agree with on this post, but one thing about NEA is their warranty or at least how they present it, that what one would buy a gun for, its not something people expect from chinese made product, NEA is canadian a there a lot of expectations from them just on the quality of the product, but its only that far that you can go with 1000 dollar AR, plus they are new in this, give them some time, Colt wasnt making quality wheel guns in the beginning either, i've seen expensive build go down really bad, but its the customer service of the company that wins the hearts and minds. On technical side NEA offers some really good stuff, and once all the bugs will get worked out it be really hard to beat NEA on "best bang for the buck" option. Hell, their barrel treatment is more advanced than the one done to Swiss Arms (one of the reason Swiss Arms is so accurate for non free floating design)

I have yet to fire an NEA. I have had Armalite's, Bushmaster's and a few Norcs. Bang for buck I take the Norc's over anything else. For $600 on the EE I can't see how you can go wrong, if you have deeper pockets spend more and get possibly better quality. I wouldn't hesitate to advise anyone to buy a Norc 14.5" AR.

first off, im new so im gonna apologize right from the start.
im jumping in with both feet.

but i have a pretty good handle on 1/2 of your question.
the Norinco AR (or as they call it, the SQ)

i have 2 of them.
i picked up the 14.5 plain Jane one almost 2 years ago and i really like it.
so much so that when i stumbled upon the 'new' version SQ with the 10.5 barrel and the quad rails on the front with the front pistol grip i didnt hesitate and i picked one of those up as well.

ive yet to have a problem with either one besides the odd miss fire from using surplus ammo.
i haven't broken anything on either and they still both look and run as good as they did the day i got them.

as for shooting, from straight out of the box i was hitting bullseye with the 14.5 with the iron sites and just recently upgraded the 14.5 to a scope and the 10.5 to a red dot with a laser and a flashlight (ya i know, too much TV, but it looks SOOOOOO nice!)

and like mentioned above, i can spell my name out with them at short range. long range i must admit i haven't done much with them. but lets be honest, a .223 isnt a .338 long distance tool.
especially with the 10.5 barrel, thats only really good for short distances.

now while ive never owned a bushmaster or colt and have only shot each of them once before i so far can see no difference between them and the SQ.... besides being half the price!

hope that helps.
and i hate to ask.... but what is a NEA?

North Eastern Arms. A Canadian company. Check out SFRC to see their product.

One thing I HATE, is the generic photos from NEA. I wanna see good shots of the gun I am buying.

Sorry, if I wasn't clear enough. I went with the Norc 10.5"

well they are pretty looking, ill give them that.

but they are getting up into the other AR prices.

i think if i was gonna spend that much on a AR id maybe look at investing a little bit more and getting a custom one from Alberta Tactical or something.

but i guess im cheap.
i really like my norinco's!

The OP's main concern was the "accuracy" of the rifles. How far do you plan on engaging targets with your CARBINE? Both will put holes where you aim withing 300m. Norinco = amazing price+ great function+ not the greatest finish. NEA = good price+ great function+ good finish. IF you are merley concerned with the accuracy go with the Norc and spend the remaining money on ammo/ honing your skills.

I'm thinking a used LMT or Stag. Resale value on either will be a lot higher than Norc or NEA, and the quality is certainly there.

Good point, you are very right. I thought about it myself to be honest. But seems how I just did my first purchase, I kept everything in a tight bidget. Always room for improvement, and to be honest, even the Norcs are holding great value...

But, the stags and LMT's are many cuts above. If one was offered at the right price, I would have jumped on it. But, my waiting skills need work (according to my wife)

Not an expert at this but I've been told Stag is the best bang for the buck in AR's, a few years back friends told me CMMG was rightly priced as well..STAG's go for, $1000+ if I remember .
