Norc HP-9 carrier problem with Mesa Holder

My Norc HP9 carrier started failing to lift -- everything seemed alright with the carrier, dog, spring and follower (other than the fact that they are typical rough Norc parts).

I put the regular trigger plate pins back in while cursing and beating the gun because it was easier than putting on the Mesa shell holder. The carrier then worked flawlessly. I put the Mesa holder back on and the carrier failed to lift again after being pumped a few times.

Two more attempts confirmed that the carrier lifts every time with the regular pins, but fails when the Mesa shell holder is put back on.

Could the screws for the holder that replace the regular pins be compressing the trigger plate assembly? Has anyone had this problem before? I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

Hey Badboy -- that would have been the solution with a normal human, but I am a super-idiot! I tried putting the screws so loose that the holder was jiggling on the frame and it still did not work. I was sure that some law of physics was being violated and I was going to have to get a priest in to look at this. Then I pulled the pump back and realized that the forend was hitting the shell holder so I was not able to pump the gun fully! Up until then I had myself convinced I had shot this 870 with the shell holder on, but obviously I never have. Alzheimer's has set in and I never even saw it coming...
I took off the forend (with my S&J forend tool) and sawed of an inch and the problem is solved. Now if I can just remember where I left my keys...
