First off, today I decided to repair my loosing op rod guide. When I tried to extract the original roll pin, it disintegrated. After a quick measurement of the ID (3.49mm), I found I had some fairly hard 4mm stock. I spun up the ol’ South Bend lathe to turn it down to 3.49mm. Some 120 grit emery cloth on the OD and ID of the guide mating surface and some epoxy with the new solid pin and she firmed up real nice.
I’ve cleaned my rifle twice now and still have not put a single round through it since I bought it. This time, instead of wheel bearing grease, I used premium quality moly based grease. Is the action ever smooth.
I also smoothed out a portion of the receiver and the bolt on the ejection port side lug, that was binding. Ultra fine machinist files made short work of that burr.
Here is some data I’ve collected from some of the cartridge cases that I received with the rifle, would it be possible to determine head spacing with this info? (millimeters) I took measurements from 10 casings, as some of them, it was almost impossible to tell the point of expansion(G). I rotated each casing in the jaws of the micrometer and used a "basic" average for each measurement. Each casing was not perfectly round. The measurement (G) ended at the crest of the expansion point.

My wife makes fun of me for playing with the rifle all the time and “clearing” or “Counter-Striking”, as she calls it, the house. Am I the only one who does this? Thankfully she is not fazed by me running around the house like a goof. My short little shotgun that I traded for this m14 was much easier to maneuver indoors.
