Norc M14 – Various - Long winded Post

First off, today I decided to repair my loosing op rod guide. When I tried to extract the original roll pin, it disintegrated. After a quick measurement of the ID (3.49mm), I found I had some fairly hard 4mm stock. I spun up the ol’ South Bend lathe to turn it down to 3.49mm. Some 120 grit emery cloth on the OD and ID of the guide mating surface and some epoxy with the new solid pin and she firmed up real nice.

I’ve cleaned my rifle twice now and still have not put a single round through it since I bought it. This time, instead of wheel bearing grease, I used premium quality moly based grease. Is the action ever smooth.

I also smoothed out a portion of the receiver and the bolt on the ejection port side lug, that was binding. Ultra fine machinist files made short work of that burr.

Here is some data I’ve collected from some of the cartridge cases that I received with the rifle, would it be possible to determine head spacing with this info? (millimeters) I took measurements from 10 casings, as some of them, it was almost impossible to tell the point of expansion(G). I rotated each casing in the jaws of the micrometer and used a "basic" average for each measurement. Each casing was not perfectly round. The measurement (G) ended at the crest of the expansion point.

My wife makes fun of me for playing with the rifle all the time and “clearing” or “Counter-Striking”, as she calls it, the house. Am I the only one who does this? Thankfully she is not fazed by me running around the house like a goof. My short little shotgun that I traded for this m14 was much easier to maneuver indoors.

Don't worry.... I do it all the time too, normally with my pistol though.

Mail off a couple of your brass to Hungry and he'll gauge it for you.

I put blankets on the hall floor in the basement so the mags don't damage the lino:redface:

You need to chop the barrel, then it's a lot easier to pie doorways:D

I have this army style webbing I bought when I was into paint ball. Decent quailty stuff. One of the pouch sets will hold 4 20/5s comfortably. I need to buy some more mags...

I havn't decided if I'm going to chop the barrel yet. Once I get to shoot it, then I'll know what I'm going to do with it.

If it's real accurate I'm thinking of making 500+ meter rifle.

If it's average then shorten the barrel and put a folding stock on it.

What, are you guys nuts? You run around your houses doing room clearance drills with your rifles and handguns? That's totally crazy!

Everybody knows pump shotguns are much better for that :). So do you guys do that after dark, with weapon lights too?

One must chop the barrel and add some rails to your stock so that we can look at ourselves in the wall length mirror; Just like the fellas over in the black rifle section. :D

Who needs XBox Counter Strike 4 ? WE have the real thing !

Yeah, mail me 3 pcs of brass in a cheap padded envelope and I can mic your brass for ya! Forget all those silly mm measurements up and down that cartridge case. Sounds to me like after you record all those dimensions, my #### may fall off!

Peace out,
Barney

next thing- a MINIGUN on a red ryder wagon- in 7.62 of course- but it only works in bungalows where there are no stairs
