Awesome!!! hehe

I finally got to do some sighting and targetry with the new deer/moose gun today. The rifle is one I purchased from Laz which he tuned, here are the specs:

-18.5 chop that was done before Laz got his greasy paws on it.
-Trigger job lovingly done by Laz
-Headspacing done again by Laz
-Dlask short brake installed before Laz sent it to me.
-Stock built by Turf on the board here
-Ultimak rail
-Bushnell 2-6 LER scope

Sorry the pics are camera phone cause the digi is dead RIP...

Sighting in was very very easy with minimal windage adjustment needed thanks to the well made Ultimak. Lots of vertical was needed but I only shot it at 50m so far so once I get to shoot it @ 100&200 We'll see how things go.

Either way here are the pics of the target and final grouping it shows 7 penetrations the top 2 are me making vertical adjustments, third down is a pull and the 4 others are all within .5" of each other with the 4th not really visable cause it was hitting air as it passed through the target :D. The key measures .75" so you do the math...

Now I'm not a great shooter and was shooting off the hood of the truck with a bipod, I have friends that could do much much better I'm sure. The point is that this rifle works really really well. FYI I was shooting handloads 46gr vargit powder and 165gr sierra (match kings IIRC). I think its safe to say this is a MOA rifle but I'll take pics at full range and update this thread when I get a chance. Here are my feelings on the mods and rifle overall.

1. Short barrel obviously had no ill effect on accuracy, maybe it saves me a little weight but its really only about the LCF which is +1. Its shorter and works so far what else can I say.

2. Trigger job is a little heavy but crisp and clean. Just what Laz said it would be. nice job my friend, nice job. :dancingbanana:

3. Headspacing I can't really comment on other then the spent casings show no ill signs.

4. Dlask brake is awesome. I've compaired it directly to a stock norc and the recoil is significantly reduced to about the same as my CZ858. I tend to flinch when I'm shooting medium calibre rounds cause I'm a pussy and there is no worry of that happening here. The rifle is loud.

5. Stock is good. Functionality is 10/10 it is awesome for fit and ease of shooting. Examply my GF is considerably smaller then me and one quick adjustment puts the rifle comfortabley within here prefered LOP. Finish is 8/10 with paint being excellend however there could have been more attention paid to detailing the stock before painting. That said for under $300 including all the parts and labor its a smokin deal. The action obviously sits firmly in place and accuracy is improved over the chu wood.

6. Ultimak rail is very very well made. Its fit and finish are flawless and I have no worries of it moving. Height is low enough not to need a cheek riser to get a good comfortable cheek weld. It is however heavy and you can feel it on the end of the gun but that is with a scope and rings as well. all in all I highly recomend the Ultimak its well worth the $200.

7. scope is a middle of the road scope that works well I've had it on my Mosin scout and the eye relief was too long but on the ultimak is works great.

Total cost is probably close to $1800 including the scope all the labor and parts. Its my most expensive gun and I like it, what more can I say?

BTW all the credit goes to CGN and the good Lord who allows me the money to troll the EE.

Great shooting. I know, detailing ain't my strong suit when it comes to 40+ year old stocks:redface: But, you could send me $50 and I'll get you a bone straight stock from where I get them. Ripples and dents and chips, oh boy.:p

I am really glad you are pleased with the functionality. That is what counts. That kind of grouping at 50 yds speaks volumes. Not only for the rifle, but the shooter himself. Well done:dancingbanana:

Thanks Turf. I'm still very happy with the stock and I recomend you highly. Heck a USGI stock for $50 is a smokin deal any day of the week.

This is deffinately a case of the rifle doing all the work cause I'm no sniper, in fact this is the first time post snow on the ground I've been able to put some rounds down range.

How about some up and close shots of the stock?Good shooting by the way and did you do anything special with your reloads? Have to try and find a good recipe without throwing a bunch down range.Nice work guys.

Nothing special with the handloads. Just standard max load with the Sierras. I've had good luck with the varget powder and Sierra bullets in the past, although I'm sure with some match bullets and a real finely tuned load I could get better results.
