Norc M14 receiver hardness.

Hi guys. Just curious on whether anyone has ever taken their M14 receiver and bolt for Rockwell testing? Lots of info out there saying how hard they are. Some saying they are soft and need heat treatment, etc. Hard to come by any real numbers though.
 
I don't have any firm numbers.

I don't believe you'll find anyone who really does..... at least nothing recent. Data from the 90's will be out there, but not really relevant now..... 25-30yrs is a long time....

That said, I believe that Chinese heat treating will be "on par" with the rest of the quality of the firearm.... some will be perfect, most will be Ok, the odd one will be done incorrectly....

If you're concerned about it, the cost of having a reciever annealed and then done correctly is fairly reasonable. Add up the cost of a NIB rifle + heat treating = less than a LRB reciever....

There was a fellow on here who took his bolt and receiver to work and tested them. They were both high 40's Rockwell C as I remember it. Good luck searching for it, the search function on this forum is horrible.

You can buy a kit of hardness files from Japan on Ebay for $75.00 if you really want to find out.

It only took me a couple of minutes to find this, so the search function isn't exactly "horrible".
