Got two questions regarding my rifle.

First is an issue actually, it appears that when the gas piston fully extends outward with some force (ie when I fire it) it tends to get stuck.

It is dry as can be and moves back and fourth without an issue however if I let gravity drop it, that's enough force to get it stuck again and it will not return on its own when I flip the rifle around. I have done all the cleaning relating to the packing oil and such but this does not appear to be the issue as its only at the end when its supposed to stop that it gets stuck.

This is causing the rifle to not cycle properly, a good 50% of the time there isn't enough force to push it back so the round goes in about half way.

Anyone familiar with this problem?

Second thing is the front sight appears to be sitting to the left a bit and not centered with the barrel, should I try to center this?

I read up on the stickies, the rifle is properly lubed up, piston is dry and so on.

Thanks abunch,

I've never heard of that happening before, I sometimes swear my M305B was made by the swiss. But that's China for you.

Are you suggesting that not even the force of the Op rod returning will push the piston back in ? You might have gotten a dud that you need to return, or perhaps it's a simple bit of tweeking that a decent smith could fix.

Hopefully someone chimes in about this one.

As for the sight, if it were me, I'd jsut compensate with the windage knob on the rear sight for now and at least find out how off it is.

Some sights on some guns will appear to be off compared to the barrel, but really, that's the position they ended up when the rifle was zeroed and could still be bang on. You should the front sight on my Mosin Nagant.

Inspect the gas piston.
Are there any burrs on uneven surfaces on it?
Is the thinner length of the gas piston that forces the op rod back straight relative to the upper part of the piston?

Also inspect the hole in the gas block where this part passes through to hit the op rod back and cycle the action.
Again, do you see any burrs or is the holes shape true to the shape of the gas piston?

Are there any hard scuffs on any of these surfaces? This could give you an indiciation of where the bind/hang up is.

I'm no gun smith let me say that first, but a lot of the problems with these rifles can be fixed in your basement with a small metal file etc without dropping hundreds at the local smith and waiting for 3 weeks to get your rifle back.

As for the front sight, mine is slightly right lol I've even had it inspected by Barney and the barrel is fully indexed, Chang just wasn't paying very close attention when they tack welded the flash suppressor on at factory 36 that day :(

There is not much you can do other than break the weld and put on a new front sight/flash suppressor etc and make sure it is lined up. It's a $400 rifle from China you know, what can you expect?

Does it cause your groups to be off from your POA? I had to compensate for it by moving the rear sight 2 clicks to the left. Problem solved

Regarding the gas piston sticking, can you get a return on the rifle under warranty?

Is the piston getting stuck at the front of the rifle or the rear ??
If your gas locking ring is not lined up correctly this will stop the gas piston from going forward ..tilt the rifle up and down with the spring and op rod spring guide removed or held back . (TILT TEST )

Some of these rifles come with the barrel not indexed properly (not tightened onto the receiver enough) this will cause the front sight to lean to the right as you look from the rear of the rifle ....the front sight then has to be moved to the left to adjust for it or tighten the barrel onto the receiver .

Some other rifles have had the front sight base itself milled incorrectly and this causes the front sight to lean as well.

and you want to check that the piston tail is parallel to the barrel- the flat part goes on top and should move easily up and down- i've seen that happen when gomer put the piston in UPSIDE DOWN ( how he does that, only gomer knows) it gets caught on the edges- it's a half round with the flat on top- it HAS to match that config- if it's off center or tilted, it's not going to werk properly
