Looking to pick up a cheap 9mm for the girl friend to use, what are your thoughts on the norinco clone of the 226 and the 1911? is one better than the other? I found a dealer that has both in stock an no im not saying who haha

I would get the np 22 for the girlfriend and a 1911 .45 for yourself :)

They are both solid firearms and but it all comes down to the type and size if firearm you want. One has 3 safeties the other has no safeties. Stuff like that.If you can bring her in to handle the firearms that would be even better.

If your GF isn't an experienced shooter, I'd recommend the 1911 clone over the Sig. The Sig grip requires a large hand and some strength to manage, and the DA/SA trigger is somewhat tricky. Most female shooters I know have no problem with the 1911 platform.

I have an NP29 and found the handling improved when I added a Hogue rubber wraparound grip with finger grooves. The NP29 has checkering on the back and sides only, the front is smooth curved metal and your fingers may just slide up the front of the grip. My wife also prefers the finger groove grip and has picked one up for her CZ shadow.

well right now I already have a GSG 1911 and she likes it. But the 22lr round its self seems to have a fair share of failure to fire, plus its time to jump up to some thing with more punch. We were looking in the store and the 226 caught her eye. She likes the feel of both, but just curious if one is more reliable than the other. To me with a mechanical back ground the sig design with the decocking lever adds more parts to break.

Historically there have been more failures of the Sig Norks on here then the Nork 1911's. I think they have corrected that though...

From what you are saying I would stick with the 1911.She already has experience with that type of firearm. An hey after a while you can get the np 22 as well.I have one in the middle of a transfer myself just because I already have 1911 in .45 and thought id get a 9mm as well.
Ill be doing a video range report on the NP 22 once I receive it.

i have the norc 1911 .45, and the np22 9mm. i will say i love them both, but totally different guns all together. i would say go with the np22 for now as you already have a 1911, then get a np29 down the road if she wants something cheaper on ammo, as the kick really is the same, and they are the same price. they both have about the same availability, usually its a flood of one, then the other lol
