Norinco 12ga 12.5" Non restricted?

I think the rules for shotguns are different than rifles. As far as I know shotguns only have to meet a certain overall length and don't require an 18.5 inch barrel like rifles do.

Norinco 12ga 12.5" Barrel, Pump, Ghost Ring Sights, Black-

Probably been asked before but I was just wondering why this shotgun would be non-restricted?:confused:

Because of OAL and it's not semi auto. The OAL is still within guidelines, and the barrel was manufactured that length, not cut. As well, barrel length restrictions of 18.5" applied to semi automatic centre fire, not pump action, bolt action, lever action, etc.

EDIT: Trying to understand gun laws and why it is that way will cause an infarction. Tread carefully.

You have been a member since 2007 and didn't know it just has to be a manufactured barrel? Lot's of short .22 barrels out there, youth sizes and what not.

Connexion beat me to it.

Shotguns, unlike rifles need to be a minimum total length of 26" long to meet the non-restricted requirements. In a sense, the OE barrel length is not in question, only "total" length....

Guess I misread /Misunderstood- the RCMP site;
a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm;
a semi-automatic, centre-fire rifle or shotgun with a barrel length less than 470 mm (18.5 inches) that is not prohibited;
a rifle or shotgun that can fire when its overall length is reduced by folding, telescoping or some other means to less than 660 mm (26 inches);
any firearm prescribed as restricted (including some long guns).
