norinco 1911 barrel bushing swap ??

A sloppy barrel bushing will affect the accuracy for sure. The barrel will move in relation to the slide
and more important, the sights.
A match grade bushing usually requires some metal removal ( some sandpaper ) in order to be a nice tight fit.
I cannot comment on the one in the link except that they sell quality parts.

I'd get a smith to wrench fit an oversized bushing to the slide and barrel....best case scenario for a proper fit.
Second best is EGW.... they will cut one to fit your barrel, you just have to measure your barrel and slide and send them the dimensions.

I have a govt norinco that has some barrel slop in the closed position. I can put a wooden dowell in the end of the barrel and move it "up, down, left and right, more than I think it should. i'm thinking poor barrel bushing fit. My groups at 25 yards are 6 to 7 inches off. My other Comander gun barrel fits tighter and I get 1 inch groups. Will this new bushing DROP right in ?? and how much will it help its accuracy ??

I have that bushing on a 5" Norc 1911, fit was very snug in the slide at first, but it has worked in a bit to where I still need a bushing wrench but it does not feel crazy tight. I can't say that my groups changed a lot (I am the weak link in the system, not the gun) but it did remove all the free play and looks very nice against the blued finish.

Bob was great to deal with and shipping was fast and cheap.

A Commander bushing won't work in a Government slide - the Commander bushing is shorter than the GI bushing. A properly fitted bushing should increase the accuracy potential of any 1911 style gun.

I have found that the lockup is causing most of the slop in my norinco. If I do the dowel trick I can click the chamber end left and right quite a bit. It's really noticeable watching the gap around the hood.

I guess what I'm suggesting is maybe check the lockup as well while your at it. The slop in mine makes it a scatter gun. If I ever had to use it for self defense it would produce a lot of warning shots ;)

I had lots of freeplay in my barrel bushing, both in the frame, and with the barrel. I mic'd the barrel OD and double-checked the specs in the Brownells catalog and ended up buying an Ed Brown stainless bushing. I thought it would be a perfect no-gunsmithing fit, but in a way thankfully it was a little oversized. It was pretty snug in the frame, requiring a wrench. After twisting it in and out a couple dozen times it wore itself in enough to barely require the wrench. The bushing ID was just a little tight for the barrel to go through. So a padded dowel and a wrap of 800 grit wet-dry sandpaper slowly opened up the bushing until the barrel could just barely go through. Very snug. Fits great and looks fantastic.

Of course, I suck at shooting, so I have not idea if it made it any better. I don't know if the groups are me or something else on the gun, but I can't blame the barrel/bushing fit.

LOL, sounds like my issues for sure. I never really bothered doing anything with my other 45 norks, I just kinda took it for what it was...didnt really care. i never thought of them as a tack driver till I shot my buddys,..very impressive !! So now I'm on a personal mission to get the best accuracy I can out of this 45. I just want to know,.and I like to tinker and modify. How accurate can a nork 1911 get??..I will soon know. Last year I had a chance to shoot a Stainless Steel Springfield 45...nice & very accurate... lots of money too.

yup..crappy lock up. I bought this one used, and the owner was very honest about it and said it had a very high round count, and i got a really good deal on it. Other than the bushing Thing...I cant find any real wear in this gun..tuff old thing LOL.

I was recomended this rear sight from another good forum member here.
it will certainly be better than what I have.

stock rear sight..It has a heavy drift to the left to correct the windage

Tighten up the top end....fit bushing, longer link for better lock up, and that will do a lot for tighter groups. Trigger work if it needs it, and better sights if it needs that too but no point until the top end is tight.
They make good barrels, it's just the sloppy fitting of everything that degrades the accuracy.

well now you got me researching.....longer barrel link ?? And for sure..tighten up the top-end.
OK, I found some barrel links...+.002 and +3, 4, 5, and even a -negative .003 kinda lost here for the moment.

After watching an extensive video on barrel fitting and messuring mine, I've come to the

conclusion that my barrel is Bedding perfectly and Timmed correctly with the frame of the gun, so I wont be altering the link leangth. The barrel is exactly where it must be, in and out of battery.

UPDATE- I picked up a bushing from a gun store here in town, and wow, fixed the problem. Shoots so much better,..very happy. I also moved the rear sight to the Right. Shoots POA now.
