Hey all, I'm new to 1911's and just bought a used Norinco from a buddy. When I disassemble the slide from the frame, the spring pops off the barrel link immediately and if I'm not holding everything tight to my body, my guide rod goes flying across the room. Could this be because my barrel link is loose? If I put the guide rod and spring in place and simply push on it, the guide rod slides up the barrel link and pushes it out of the way.

It's very difficult to reassemble too because I need to hold the spring and barrel link in place in order to get the slide reassembled and then pretty much hug the gun as I put the slide back on...seems a little ridiculous. Any ideas? Hopefully that kind of makes sense...

Try rotating the barrel bushing clockwise about 90 degrees with your hand over it to catch the recoil spring. That way you can pull the recoil spring out before removing the slide. Putting it back in is the reverse, but I find it easier if I put the thumb safety on so the slide doesn't move. I'm assuming you don't have a full length guide rod if it's flying out of the gun. Good luck, lots of videos on YouTube to help as well.

Hi, are you removing the slide complete? It's common practice to remove the barrel bushing recoil spring plug and spring before trying to remove the slide.....as mentioned, YouTube is your friend...

Hey.....no worries endo....we've all been there....lol

hey
for what its worth..I have two norinco 1911 commander and dominion arms full size I noticed the dominion arms barrel has more of an angle cut then the other where the guide rod pushes against so when I remove the slide from the frame I have to be careful that the guide rod doesn't fall out or if I haven't taken the spring out of tension it will push out...some of the norinco's need replacement parts as you may find one or two with bad tooling..my safety looked like it came out of the scrap bin..lol

Next time you take down to clean trace the barrel bushing. Get a small sheet of 1/8" Lexan and trace out the shape of a bushing wrench except add a extension out the right hand side, this will stop the spring from slipping by. Go to Brownell's site to see this type of wrench, or just order one.
