Theres over 1000 posts on the thread in the Canada Ammo forum but nothing here. I thought it might be interesting as more of a general topic to post up the pics I have of the gun pre and post unboxing and post clean up.

Cost me $525 shipped with a crate of 1000 rounds of Norinco 45acp. Theres still some left on the site.

First the initial unboxing pics: In the box I found the gun in its box, a package of targets, a magazine and a novelty pen.

Now on to the gun:
The box is sturdy, foam is well cut and not messed up at all. Manual is above the styrofoam. Inside the box youll find the gun, which is wrapped in a thick-ish plastic and sealed (not just taped, but actually heat sealed shut). One mag is in the gun, one is in another sealed package in the foam. Cleaning brush and handle are not sealed and are not covered in grease

Gun itself is covered with grease. Its not cosmoline but it is sticky. Its not bad if your someone who's ever cleaned an SKS. Im sorry the pics suck. I only had my phone and didnt want to start shooting flash photography of a gun in my office.

Barrel is packed with a little sliver of white material. Or material that was white before they coated it with grease.

I looked my gun over as best I could and didnt find any obvious issues at all. The grips are not cracked at all. There are no major imperfections on the slide or frame. I cycled it and dry fired it and everything worked, even covered in grease. The mag was stuck in a bit but once I just barely pull it loose it fell right out. Locked tight without much effort.

I can see some light scratches here and there but nothing I wasnt expecting to find on a $170 gun and nothing I dont think youd find on a $400 gun that was lightly used anyway. So no complaints from me. As long as this thing goes boom when I pull the trigger... im one very happy camper.

The ammo came in another box, in a wooden crate, didnt open it.

Pics of the cleaned gun in the next post.

This gun is in excellent condition. Only a few MINOR scratches on the frame. I am absolutely not unhappy.

To clean it, I soaked disassembled the gun and put all the parts in boiling water. Then took them out, wiped them down. Anything with moving parts or places I couldnt get to I sprayed down with brake clean. Dried it all again and sprayed it down with gun cleaner/lube and wiped it down again. I wanted to make sure it was well coated and wouldnt normally use this much oil.

The gun is definitely a bit notchy to run empty. But it functions flawlessly. The mags are only stiff going in because they need to compress the spring. They literally shoot out when hit the release. Not sure how they'll feel loaded. Im going to run some snap caps through it and see how things go.

I did NOT like the stock grips so I put a fab defence grip/magwell on it. Looks great and makes loading the mag very fast. BUT... the mags have a very thin bottom plate and the magwell extends past the bottom of the frame so im going to need something on the bottom of the mags to extend them a bit.

Heres the pics of it cleaned up. Only took about an hour.

Pics of the grip and magwell area as requested:

pics of the magwell area, with and without mag? preferably from underneath if i may be so picky. i'm looking at magwell options for my Ruger and future 1911s, and these looks kind of interesting (albeit a bit hard to see, black on black and all that)

^^ Black on black was the plan. hehe. Id be happy to get you some better pics tomorrow. Done for the night but ill be fondling her again tomorrow for sure and ill grab a few more detailed pics of the grip and magwell. I got the grips from Zahal FWIW.

I cycled some snap caps through the gun tonight and every single one fed perfect and ejected perfect. Not a single issue. for $170 this seems to be a solid piece.

Ah , this is a neat thread. I`ve always wondered about that deal.

I wondered because I bought a 1200.00 Kimber as my first restricted, and when I look at the $525 ammo deal, I`m like "wow", that's really something

Thank you for spending the time to post it.

I think that's a great value, if not the very best bang for the buck.

Give her a wipe down with G96, and then very sparingly, polish it with a small amount of Flitz metal polish - you'll be surprised at the result. Again; sparingly, small amount - the idea being to clean, not strip. There's a very nice finish under there.

This deal needs to run out soon... Or I'll be explaining another gun purchase to the wife this month.

I like the 'old school' Norc 1911A1's without the front slide serrations & stock [non extended] slide stop.

Nice job with yours. I like to replace the grips & put in an adjustable aluminum trigger in all mine, too.

Just realized that the threads for the grip bushings seem to be different from the "standard" 1911s threading...:(

Ordered some thin grips from Brownells, along with these recommended "slim" bushings and screws:

h ttp://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/grip-parts/grip-bushings/slim-grip-screws-bushings-prod24892.aspx

and they wouldn't fit!! (the bushings, that is.) Looked closely at them, and the thread pitch on them looks finer than the thread on the one that comes with the Norinco.
(Sorry, way too small to take a picture of with my camera!) Looks like I'm stuck with the ugly plastic Norinco ones for a bit longer....

Anyone else have this problem? Am I correct, or am I just mechanically hopeless, and can't get them screwed in properly?

I used the factory screws with the grips I installed and they worked fine. If the grips were ANY thinner they wouldnt have worked though. Not without some filing of the actual threaded side on the frame.

The grip screw threads are the same as all the other 1911s out there, but for some reason Norinco uses a different thread for the bushings to the frame. You can have the frame drilled and tapped to accept the more common grip screw bushings though.
