Hi Guys,

Is it normal for a Norinco 1911 to rattle when the hammer is cocked?

I just got one as part of the CanAm deal, all is good expect there is quite a bit of play with the slide/frame fit. This is my first 1911 and I was going to buy some parts and put some $ into this gun, but now I'm wondering if I should try and find another one with a tighter slide/frame fit... How critical is the fit to accuracy/reliability?

Thanks!

Misanthropist has given you the best answer. It is probably more like the GI pistol than more modern uber- accurate 1911s, the reliability legend came with a trade off.

Tight barrel lock up = Sign of good accuracy
Tight slide to frame fit = Sign of good worksmanship

As said before, slide to frame fit should not affect performance and should help with reliability..

What do you expect from a 180$ pistol? ;)

Good to hear.
I just purchased the Norinco 1911 as well through the CanAm combo deal.
Is there any special cleaning or maintenance I should perform? If so, what are some good products to buy?
I am still waiting for my piece to arrive

Field strip it, wipe off the gunk from storage, lube and reassemble. Go shooting.

Repeat as desired.
