I was looking at buying the full size Norinco 1911 sport model 45acp with the adjustable rear sight.
How accurate are they. Is the rear sight good quality.? does the rear sight have to be Jacked Way up to get Point of aim ?

here is a pic of the sport model Im interested in.

If the same gun had an American name on it, it would cost more than double what this one costs. I resisted buying one for many years - I knew that they had improved their fit and finish, quite a lot, from their first offerings and were a decent quality piece - I just couldn't get past the politics of the "country of origin". I finally broke down and bought one this year - a plastic gun costs more ! I spent a few hours, polishing some of the internals (and a couple of the externals, too) - some of the bits are finished a little on the rough side. The trigger was kinda' heavy and didn't break as clean as I like - so I did some work on the hammer notch and sear and now it breaks clean, at a bit under 3.5 lbs. The rear sight is fine - looks like most other adjustable rear sights on medium priced pistols. Mine came with the sight set right near the bottom of its travel - and other than a slight windage adjustment, it hit point of aim at 10 M. I believe that you would find its accuracy more than acceptable - particularly, considering the price. I have a couple of 1911's that will shoot a tighter group, but they're crowding 2 grand - that's like - 4 or 5 of these ? Good luck, with whatever you decide.

Thank you. It means a lot to me , that you took the time to explain all the details of the gun. sounds like a good investment. Yes very good price..... $399. I see used selling for more.

Like Fire@will said, for the money (and with the sales that are on right now) you can't go wrong with one of these. Mine is all satin chrome with the stock Norinco grips. I bought it lightly used from a dealer (there was still some cosmoline in the gun). I think that there were two reasons the previous owner traded it; the first was it was shooting left, off the paper at 20 yards, and the rear sight was very counter intuitive to adjust. The second issue, while not universal in Norinco 1911s, is not uncommon; the slide would not lock open after the last shot. I sought the advice of other members here and on the other forum, and they all blamed the mags; I bought some different mags, and they were no different. I took the slide and barrel off, put the mag and the slide catch in and discovered that it was too short (not by much). I built it up with the Tig, filed it to shape, reblued it, and it is running perfectly now. Since then I have fixed a number of these, and I do so no charge. Everyone loves their Nork 1911s.

BTW, My rear sight is plenty high for POA at 20 yards. I have also a Norinco NZ85 and NP58, both with fixed sights, and I find they shoot very well also, but I did need to drift the sights as they were shooting left also. I think it may be that they are all sighted in to compensate for "Chinese parallax". LOL

I have a Nork 1911 in 9mm coming, and I think it has fixed sights also. It's used and needs some serious repair before going to the range.

I just bought the exact one you are interested in, it will be here Tuesday the 11th. I have great expectations for this gun from what i have heard. I bought it for a project and want to hot rod it a bit but i am basically planning to wipe off the oil feild strip and clean what i can in that condition, then run 200 rounds through it before i modify anything. Im almost afraid to try it, it probably will work as good or better than my sig that i paid 1400 bucks for. ;)

Update to follow

A friend of mine tried mine; he bought himself a Sig 1911 also. They are sure pretty and everything about them is slick. I have a few thousand through mine though, and it is just as tight, and his trigger is only marginally better. He shoots better with his than he does with mine; I shoot better with mine than I did with his.

The other thing is, if you use home-loads in your Sig, the warranty is void; All I shoot in all of my Norincos are home-loads (or I would not be able to afford to shoot as much as I do). With Norinco, there is no such stipulation; the dealers and distributors look after their customers.

I have one. (Satin chrome) Shoots very well.

It got a trigger job and new grips.

I did not like the chrome front sight. Not enough contrast. So I filed off the chrome face to get down to steel and then cold blued it.

Hit mine with black paint marker. Way better!

Update on the. Norinco. Unboxed and was quite pleased, the finish is extremely good, fit it very good. The slide has some clearance but its basically normal imo. There are some sharp edges but that will be taken care of when i do some custom work. Its greasy but i expected that because they basically come here in container ships so im glad they soaked it down. The slide has a bit of roughness but also will be taken care of. I loaded some dummy rounds (brass and bullet, no primer or powder) and it chambered perfectly, racked the slide and it flips them clear, always in the same place. Ejector seem like its got the proper bevel and reliefs on it and i ejects real good. I really excited to run a few hundred rounds through it. The sights are nice, easy to see.

I can see myself owning another of these. I like the commander. My wife is gonna kill me. :p

Heading to the range Friday (14 th) I'll update after that, but my prediction is it will fire everything i load in it.

Check the clearance between the slide and the dust cover portion of the frame; if there is interference, it will make rub marks on your slide, that will not easily be removed later. Both my Nork 1911 and my NZ85 required a good bit of work with a die grinder to prevent this. These pistols both have satin chrome slides, so you can't just reblue them.

Thanks im actually aware of those interference issue and happily the frame on this gun seems to be cleanced enough as its not contacting the slide. I will keep an eye on it when i actually start firing it. If i have to put it away early to keep if from scratching stuff up I'd rather do that. Thanks for the reminder.

Cool!

Let us know how it shoots for you!

Update on the norc. Took him too the range today. Very nice unit. No issues. Fired everything i loaded. Sights were set 6 inches low. I thought it was me. I always have my trusty screw driver in my range bag, put 3 full turns on the elevation and i was dead on. Windage was perfect as it was. Only noticable issue was the slide would fail to lock on my last round sometimes. Im not too concerned, i was shooting 200 grn swc and the recoil spring on this gun is pretty intense. It happened with wc mags and act mags so i really think its the light loads not sending the slide back far enough. It locks back manually every time. Im going to investigate the issue but i think its just the light loads coupled with the heavy spring that's causing the issue. Im very happy with this gun. I recommend one highly. Very fun. Side by side with my sig, the sig is much smoother but it also costs 4 times as much. I think with 500 rounds and some polishing it will feel very close to the high end guns imho. Trigger is sitting at a solid 6.5 pounds. Takeup is half of my sig and there is no real creep thats worth talking about. The grip saftey is a bit floppy but i plan to change the leaf spring so that will take care of that issue. Once i get the trigger pull down to a decent weight this thing will be awesome.

Highly recommended.

Ps. Custom work is next,. Will post when done.

I figured you would be quite happy! After 3 or 400 rounds, the trigger will smooth out even more, and so will the slide and action. The slide stop, as I stated earlier, is a common issue, but it can be fixed. On the slide rails, I like to use Die Makers Grease for break-in (White Lithium Grease), it is what we use to lube tooling during break-in as it really stays put better than oil. It does not take much. Anyway, keep shooting! I love mine too.
