Norinco 1911 Work, How hard would it be?

Hey Guys,

I just bought a Norinco 1911 but I want to change the slide stop, hammer, mag release, Beaver tail and add a Mag well. I've been looking at getting Wilson Combat parts.

I've never worked on a 1911 before so how hard would it be to change?

Would I just be best to send it to Gunnar for some work?
 
That stuff is as easy to replace as disassembling and replacing the old parts with the new ones. The magwell may pose a problem, depending on the kind. But look on youtube for some 1911 disassembly videos.
 
The hammer and beavertail should require some minor fitting.

Should have gotten a STI Spartan if you calculated the the cost of all the parts and gun smithing fees.
 
The magwell I'm looking at is the Wilson Combat one.

They say that it simply attaches to the grip screw bushings.
 
I have one and changed a whole hockey sock full of parts with Wilson stuff. No problems. Take it apart and put it back together with the new stuff. It really didn't need anything new, as it worked just fine, just had them around and decided to use them.
 
Do it yourself, all of it. The only stuff you might want to send-out is stuff like the cut for ramped barrels.

You'll gain a ton of experience, and even if you make some cosmetic boo-boos, you live and learn.
 
the 1911 is an easy pistol design to work on internally. I agree with the guys here who are telling you to go ahead and try it yerself. That magwell looks pretty good, should be no issues and i'll bet you will be happy with it. most wilson stuff is pretty good
