Anybody miss the $300 Norcs besides me ? The $300 and $400 1911 clones were a bargain in the day. Worked OK out of the box and made for great builds. Did up a dozen or so years past 9mm, 38super, 40SW, 45ACP. Replaced most with Brown, Wilson, STI barrells some with Colt, Brown and STI slides with premium internals and mags. They machined well for ramp and sight cuts all shot like gangbusters for under a grand. Still have most of them.

A good hammer spring and sear hammer set from Brown , Wilson. A good tight fitting bushing and a better barrel link. Most of the Nork barrels shot well. I still have a Nork barrel in a Commander with a briley bushing and link that shoots well and good adjustable trigger never hurts. Any thing that will tighten up the barrel and slide fit.

Yea, Government and Commander here. The Commander has been giving me issues of late, but I'll have it sorted out when more parts arrive.

Tell me about barrel changes though. As per that thread, the Nighthawk parts all needed some fitment, so when someone tells me the barrel is drop in, I have my doubts and I'm to understand a jig needs to be used to cut material from the slide to make the barrel lock up propper. However, once you start cutting away at the hardened steel of the slide, I don't know what's under it, and how resilient it would be.

When rebarreling, are you having to cut the slide? Are you having to fit the bushing? How do you know which size link to use?

When my Commander is running, it's great and plenty accurate, but upgrading the barrel and link are really the only upgrade I haven't done.

Pick up a copy of Combat Customizing The 1911 Auto by Bill Wilson your questions will answered there. You fit the barrel to the slide not all that hard when you have done a few Drop ins most times need fitting the link is the number one factor when rebarreling.

I have a satin Chrome one; adjustable rear sight, extended mag release, beavertail etc. I put fully checkeed rosewood grips on it. It is a thing of beauty, and shoots on par with its good looks!!.
The chrome frame on the two tones make for a nice looking gun. My favorite projects were done on that frame. My two tone Commander came with two jugs of Tanderite as a bonus for $299 from Dominion Arms back in the day.

9mm NP29 as reliable feed wise as my G17 with all ammo, ball, JHP, 115gr, 147gr.............

I even ATC'd it a couple of times in the old days in an M7 tanker chest rig.

Fortunately , I still have an older one . They use to claim that the older Norc 45's were made out of recycled railway rails , and the steel was so hard , that some gunsmiths refused to work on them .
