Does any body own a Norinco 1911 or has used one? I'm looking to buy a 1911 and the SpringField Armoury ones are a little high for my price range. Can anyone tell me whether or not I should buy a Norinco 1911 clone. I know that Norinco's M1 Garand copy is really good but from what I've heard, their pistols don't live up to their rifles and shotguns.

Well, a gigantic #### storm is about to ensue with this subject. IMO, Norincos can be bought very inexpensively. With the money you save, you can have it worked on and customized to how you want it. This is for the same price, or most likely less, as a Kimber, S&W, Wilson, et al, and those would come the way the manufacturer wants it. It all boils down to this, does it matter to you whose name is etched on your slide?

Thanks shugrnutz. I have never customized any weapon before. But am quite competent and know how to read instruction manuals etc. How hard would it be to customize a 1911 (myself or a pro) and what would you recommend getting done?

I have had dealings with the gentleman at Armco before, and he is professional and honest to deal with. He has a preference for working on Para Ordnance pistols, and he does some fine work.

doing the work yourself is not too tough if you have a lot of patience, a good book about 1911 modifying, and some machining and mechanical skills. I would also have to agree with NAA, Armco does some nice work. He will sell you a new Norinco with trigger job, and an action job. Hi-rise beavertail, grips, and sights are what I would do after that.

jfreeman, I own two 'rinco 1911 pistols and that should be enought to tell you I hold them in high esteem. I have more than a few handguns at my disposal and I love to shoot my 'rincos. Regards, Richard :D
