Did anybody buy Norinco 1911A1 police model two toned from Canada Ammo?
I got one from them and it looks and shoots good but after a few shots the front site went missing. I called CanadaAmmo and they promised me to send a new front sight as soon as shipment arrives from China. There is a problem. The shipment has not arrived yet and it may be here in February. So, I was waiting for 6 months and now I am looking for a new front sight. I do not want to wait much longer. Could anybody advice what front sight will fit this model Norinco 1911A1 police model two toned. It is dovetail sight. Also, if I am going to put a new front sight do you think I should replace the rear sight as well?

my front sight came loose as well... i just slid it out and put a lil loctite on it and slid it back in... am looking at upreading the sights in the future.. ill gladly send you mine once iv replaced it if u still need one

If I were you I would upgrade the sights right now and keep your replacement when it arrives as a spare. Every gun should have good sights, even if you only paid $349.99.

Man, that's self control!

Anyway I believe this to be a common issue with that generation of guns...I watched a friend lose his front sight at the range one time this summer.

Buy a new front sight, they are pretty cheap. But I would look closely at the slide to see how big the hole is...I am wondering if the holes were cut big on these. If that's the case it might be worth getting a dovetail job on the gun, although that will probably run you something like $150 including the new sight.

The police model already has a dovetail but it needs to be filled a bit to get a typical dovetail sight to fit.....or you could fill the sight.
I think it's worth re-shaping the dovetail so you can use standard sized dovetail sights.

The problem is that they are made in different dovetail sizes. I could not find anybody whose sights fits to this particular model. If anybody knows a good source who sells them, please, post a link to it.

what the standard size?

I can't remember the specs and there are a few different sizes other then what ever Norinco decided to use... the dovetail needs to either be re-cut with a dovetail cutter to match your chosen sight or hand filled with a dove tail angled file till it fits.

I ordered a sight and a file from Brownells but it's still on the to do list....if you do a search of this forum you will find the info on the dovetail dimensions and front sight options.

OIC...hmm, I did not notice that on my friend's pistol somehow.

That's kind of unfortunate...if only they milled the dovetail a little on the small side, it would be very easy to fix.

Put the slide in a padded vise, take a centre punch and centre punch the bottom of the dovetail a few times. Then take the front sight, put it in the same padded vise and do the same to the bottom of it. Then put in back in the dove tail. You can then put it back in the padded vise and centre punch the top of the dovetail front and back right down to the front sight!

The dovetail is a little on the small side. I meant to say "file" the sight not fill the sight.

Is your friends a Police model?

Well I thought it was but now I am questioning myself because I can't remember a dovetail.

I can picture it now with a dovetail and without equally well...you know how it is, I am trying to remember and I can get a perfect mental picture of a dovetailed 1911 and a staked one.

Anyway if the dovetail is a little small, if it were mine, I'd have it milled a bit and a new Trijicon etc. thrown in there.
