I was just wondering if you guys have any idea when the next shipment of these might be coming in? I was a little late on the last ammo gun deal and all that is left the compact. Also what is the main difference of the Compact?

Are these handguns any good? How well do they perform compared to say a Beretta 92FS or 96FS?

1911s are completely different animals compared to a modern 9mm or .40 sized gun. You can 'hot rod' a 1911 any way you want, the possibilities are endless.
The Norinco 1911 is said to be a good buy for a custom build. They have forged frames, which is a feature more reserved for 1911s in the higher price category (the machinery and labour costs in China are lower to allow for this).

mr00jimbo, you just sold me one!

I purchased a Norc 1911A1 Deluxe in December and was blown away by the value. For around $400 all in you get an awesome package. The deluxe came with front fiber optic sight, windage adjustable raised rear sights, front slide serations, extended beaver tail grip safty, skeleton trigger and hammer, two mags, one of which was an eight rounder. So much value. Now if I could only convice my wife to get one.

They are good value but don't expect a $1000 pistol for $400. What I mean is that they are functional but fit and finish details leave some to be desired. For instance, mine had significant machining burrs that I had to file and polish off. The safety and slide stop levers are uncomfortably angular rather than rounded off. Mine had an 8 lb trigger pull so I replaced the main spring. Initially I had a couple failures to feed so I polished the feed ramp and that seems to have solved the problem. On the plus side, it functions perfectly now and the mags have worked flawlessly (that was a problem earlier on, apparently). I think the bottom line is that you have to accept that they will need a bit of tweeking and be willing and able to do it.

Where are you guys with all the probs. gettin' your Norcs?
I've had a new M-93, 1911 Sport, NP-29 and a JW-25. All with excellent fit and finish.
1911's sure outshine a Spartan, by a long shot.(NPI)

Allthough this is true. When did you purchase your gun? I have heard they have gotten a lot better then they used to be. Going from how you described a poor finish to a moderate finish. Yes tweaking will be involved and some cleaning up but nothing to what it used to be.

Mine is about two years old. Actually, I wouldn't call mine a poor finish, more of a moderate finish, it actually looks quite good. There was one really large burr on the front of the frame where it is milled out to fit the upper. It was so bad a person could cut themselves on it if it wasn't removed. A feed ramp needing to be polished sometimes happens on more expensive pistols. Mainspring replacement is a common upgrade on 1911 pistols. Angular controls are not a manufacturing problem, more of a design problem. I'm not unhappy with it but I would have been unhappy if I hadn't fixed the deficiencies.

Mine is from the current batch. sharp as a bundle of razor blades. I spent quite a few hours smoothing it out, which removed a lot of the blue. Slide fit could be tighter but I shoot it very accurately, and it works, so....? 7LB 9oz trigger, which I found surprising because it feels awesome for a sub$300 gun. Overall unbeatable deal if you expect to 'finish' it yourself.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Norinco 1911A1. I know someone that has one and he loves it. Everyone l have spoken to about them praises them. Hell, if l had the cash right now, l'd buy one.
