I picked up some Norinco 7.62x51, 1970, looks like 'ZV' stamped on back of the casing, faded light blue box packaging, 20rds/box. Is this stuff any good for the M305? Corrosive? Dirty?

I had a bunch of that, still have a bit left. Dirty, corroded brass cases but shot very well! I have some '86 marked S&B that looks much better but doesn't shoot nearly as well.

Yes, copperwashed, boxes stamped Norinco, primers have red sealant on them. I'll treat it as corrosive. Got a good deal. 400rds for $75.:dancingbanana:

So you have copper washed caes with a ZV headstamp? A pick would b great. This is a new one. Interesting the Chinese would use a Czech headstamp. They did use US and UK headstamps around the same time. Most Chinese HS will only be numbers.

Maybe the cardboard cartons and ammo are mismatched? Perhaps the seller put the Czech ammo into the Chinese cartons for packaging? Oh well, either way, if it doesn't work in the M305 I'll use it for the Israeli K98. The price was right - I'm happy. :)
I'll see if I can post a pic - the digital camera is on the fritz though, but I'll try.

I am interested for academic purposes. IS the headstamp ZV with copperwashed cases? A pic of the cases and box would be appreciated. The plant that makes 308 in China is usually the 'CJ" headstamp, they also make 223.

CanAm,

You are once again correct - Czech manufacture. I started going through the box of ammo, inspecting every carton. Seems a the first few cartons on top were Norinco, the others below were similar in color, but stamped 'Made in Czechoslovakia'.

A quote by Cliff:

One night at Cheers, Cliff Clavin explained the "Buffalo Theory" to his buddy, Norm.
"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine ! That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers." -- Cliff Clavin
