Seen a few shorty norinco pump guns on ####### and other used sites that have caught my eye the past month. Does anyone on here have first hand advice regarding immediate replacements I should make to internals, as well as furniture compatibility with 870s? Also any input on reliability and used prices would be much appreciated (or even other suggestions that fit the bill for a short tube fed pump gun).
Thanks in advance!

It's an 870 made in China, though sometimes better quality than the current lot of Remington stuff.
Everything is replaceable with standard 870 parts and accessories, so if you want something different, it's your ball game.

I miss mine, it ran like a champ. I'll get another one one of these days...

+1 to what lerch said, the tube fed grizzly’s are solid guns that take 870 parts. Like all Norinco guns they can be a bit rough internally but either a quick debur and polish or just break them in by shooting and they smooth out quick, hell I find real 870’s can benefit from a polish internally. The only negative I have noticed is the Norinco stock set is really heavy but if the weight bothers you swapping a Rem stock set lightens it right up.

Another alternative is to buy a short norc barrel and keep an eye out for a complete 870 receiver and a take off stock set and put together your own short 12g, I always upgrade the mag tube spring, follower, jumbo safety on Grizzly’s and 870’s with parts from S&J Hardware. Cheap parts that add reliability and are easy to swap out.

I've heard the same about the followers and springs too so glad to hear that's a cheap upgrade. Do you know if anywhere would stock the barrels or is it luck of the draw with EE? thanks again

I have one with the 12 1/2 barrel and threaded for chokes, very solid gun. The one thing that bugged me was that the outside diameter of the pump is larger than a Rem one. It's an easy fix - swap it for a Remington one, if you get one off a wrecked Wingmaster it'll help smooth up the action. Mine's fitted with a Magpul SG and has an Ergo railed forend. I also have a Vang Comp safety on mine and that took about 2 minutes. The only serious mechanical drawback for the Norcs is that there's no flexi-tab, but if you practise that shouldn't be an issue.

Canada ammo just listed a bunch of short barrels on their website, otherwise Dlask makes and sells shorty barrels for the 870 and grizzly.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm positive that would have been an issue I'd end up dealing with. Just out of curiosity are the trigger guards metal?

Different generations of Grizzlies have plastic and metal trigger guards. I've owned both, and while I'm old school and therefore believe metal>plastic, both stood up to plenty of abuse just fine.

Plastic vs metal trigger guard is a non issue for me personally, have been hunting/hiking with the plastic ones for a couple years and they are plenty strong. I’d say the plastic is lighter which is a bonus when you’re carrying anything for hours, if I was thinking of buying a nice older blued Wingmaster I’d likely want a metal one but on a matte blued or parkerized gun I’ll take the plastic one.

Thanks again guys really appreciate the feedback. I will make sure no homelands come home with me. And i agree plastic isn't really a durability concern, for me its more cosmetic to be frank and just a nice touch.

I tested the feed and function reliability on my Norinco HP9-1 before I spent money on modding it.

It was super reliable so I went ahead with the build.

All parts fit without any mods.
