norinco 870 stock screw threads?

Bring the screw you already have to Home Depot. They have all the nuts that would fit onto it (they're all ligned up mounted on the display unit) so you should easily be able to find it no problem. Trial and error

The last one I looked at was 1/4" fine.

Agreed - all of my my norincos have been threaded the same as my Rem 870s.
i found out today after an exhaustive trek
it's metric.
M6 ..
no one has M6 screws long enough to match.
so what I'm going to have to do is use some M6 threaded dowel, and an A-corn nut, and then cut to the appropriate length

well itas 1/4 28
they work in the norinco as we use them for the stock adaptors and it fits

actually a 1/4" 28 TPI MIGHT fit, its not "proper" but the imperial bolt only differs by 0.014 O.D which will probably be made up for in clearance cut into the nut, and the clearance in the bolt ( usually 0.005" for each piece )
the pitch only differs by about 0.003" ( again clearance / sloppy tolerances )
also if your looking in a hardware store make sure your checking UNF not UNC
