Right, so, I've been browsing the net and found this wonderful web page.

Now, while I may be a fairly competent craftsman (built combat robots in high school and spent hours under the glare of a welding spark) I simply do not trust myself to throat a chamber, deburr internal parts, and drop an ejection port. Now, even though it is a Norinco, and I could probably purchase another if I flummox something up, it will be my first firearm and well, I don't want to try anything until I've grown comfortable with the platform. The question is: are there gunsmiths willing to do all this to a Norinco and about how much will it cost?
 
Click on Armco at the top of the page here, then click on his "Labour" cost. It will give you an idea. Some of the other sponsors at the top of the page may have gunsmiths as well ,check them out too. But remember sometimes it takes a gunsmith a long time to get to your job ,get the parts, then do it, then get it back to you. Turn around time can be quite long for some projects. It's not that they are slow , it is just that there are other people in line in front of you and some have too much work for one person.
 
Gunnar is the guy for Norc work. His package for Norinco 1911's will give you a smooth gun that functions perfectly and has a clean trigger pull. These are the basics with 1911's and most smiths can do them, it's just that Gunnar does them so spectacularly well. While it's in you can get almost anything done to make it all pretty, mine has Novak Competition sights and an extended safety, as well as some tightening. Incidently, using all stock parts the trigger breaks at 3 1/2 pounds and very clean.
 
If you're in the Ottawa area Jason Spencer @ Gunco is your man. He might tell you it's not worth is to spork a nork but no harm in asking.

I approached my local gunsmith a while back to have my 1911 reworked.

His said it would be very expensive to build one up and suggested I just buy a Springfield, Kimber or whatever was close to what I was looking for.

So that is what I did.
 
Hundred bucks plus return shipping. I just hope he has this deal going on when I get my license from the Government. One question that has really been bothering me is that: are there any essential add ons for the 1911? Being left handed, I need an ambi-safety for sure and want a good Ed Brown beavertail. I'm willing to spend up to 700~ dollars for this platform. Thanks in advance, big thanks to those who pointed me to Gunnar.

The sights that come with it are small and relatively difficult to see. You might want replacement sights.
 
If you haven't already bought your 1911, Gunnar sometimes
has new ones all done up already- Just send him money:)
There are some good used ones out there also.
 
I'm thinking that I might be spending a bit more on this gun than I initially thought (though that might not be a bad thing). Drooling over Ed Browns part list and thinking "yeah, I really do need a beaver tail".
