Hey guys, finally found a scope for my Backpacker, and got it mounted yesterday. :) ...so I grabbed a few boxes of ammo. from my lock box and hit the range at the farm. It was time to zero this baby, and see what it liked ammo.-wise and I must say, I was a bit surprised at the outcome. First-off, the target I was shooting;

Shot from 30 yards, off a sandbag rest. Scope is a fixed, 2.5x..perfect for what I want to do with this rifle. Anyhow, after zeroing the scope, I tried my favorite ammo, Federal Gold Medal Target. My Anschutz LOVES this stuff. Well, the Norinco doesn't. (see attempts to hit center on that yellow dot) Had me wondering if I even had it zeroed, as I'm not half-bad at taking quick shots and putting them where I want them. Rather than switch ammo, I kept trying to find center...no luck. Then tried to hit the hole I'd just shot, not even close. Getting discouraged (and a little cold) I remembered the other ammo. I'd brought with me, and loaded in some CCI sub-sonic HP.

As you can see from the target, I'd chewed-up the bulls-eye a bit with those Federals, so I decided to place a shot in a square below, then try to hit the same shot with each of the two that followed. (wasn't interested in fighting with the mag, so I was loading 3 to be safe) From the bottom left;

Group#1~first shot on bottom, second 2 above..but touching. Adjusted the scope.

Group#2~first shot on top, second two below..but touching. I'd adjusted the scope to far, re-adjust.

Group#3~first shot on left, other 2 followed. Groups 2 and 3 had me wondering if it was shooting a little right, so a slight adjustment left.

Group#4~one tight, ragged-hole. :):):)

So, hardly scientific...and not super-long range, but to say I feel some satisfaction from this experience would be an understatement. With only these targets on hand, I moved off of paper. The pop can hanging off a tree-stump 75 yards away, had it swinging with every shot after the success paper punching. I might continue testing ammo. in the weeks to come, but I think I found the winner for my Norinco. Next-up, shooting a series of 3-5 shot groups and see how often I can duplicate this result.

Really enjoying this rifle, and glad it's shooting the way I was hoping it would. I haven't had the Anschutz out once this year...and won't at this rate.:rolleyes:

Thanks for posting that, I made a note of it and I'll pick up some of the CCI subs hp next trip to the feed store. Just got the 10rd mag from Moreguns and it really improves on the look.
