I can't recall exactly, but over 15 years ago, I read an article about Norinco (?) producing a modern copy of the Broomhandle in .45 ACP.

Does anyone make replica broomhandles nowadays??

I have never heard of anyone making modern reproductions of the Mauser C96 Broomhandle pistol, but I have heard of the Chinese refurbs.
From what I have read about C96 Broomhandles, you need to be careful when your are hunting one down because you don't want to buy a Chinese refurb. About 15 years ago the Chinese sent over a whole bunch of worn out "refurbished" Broomhandle pistols for the civilian market. The Chinese used the Mauser C96s quite extensively, so they would have been in pretty beaten down shape when they retired them. These Chinese pistols are supposedly dangerous to fire as they were poorly maintained - not worth the typically low price of Chinese firearms. Besides, the C96 is like an elegantly complex piece of machined clockwork from the old world; it was quite expensive to make then and it would be quite expensive to make now - just like the handful of gunsmiths in the states who make brand new hand crafted Lugers which you can expect to pay over four figures for. If I were you, I would go for an original German pistol - the last one I saw was for sale on Astor Arm's website in very good condition for $600 (just the pistol). As hard as they are to find at that price, it is possible.

at 600 it was probably a prohib bolo model, non prohibs in very good generally run 2-3 times that amount.

no one make a replica sadly, the fitting and hand work involved would be far beyond what pricing would support, they're a freakin' chinese puzzle internally. nice though....

A while back I was wondering if a P08 Luger clone would be feasible for a gun manufacturer to reproduce, the consensus was that they are too hard to make at a reasonable cost so it wouldn't happen.
I would take a Luger and a Broomhandle if they ever did.

A C-96 replica (and I mean 100% replica, not a reasonable aesthetic copy) would be awesome!...as would a modern replica Martini-Henry.

Most likely. I doubt that they would go for less than $2k if they were really done well. Not that there isn't a market for expensive handguns- look at the Sig P210 and the top of the line 1911's. With modern CNC technology a new Luger might be feasible.

However I believe that Stoeger still owns the "Luger" name, although presumably a new mfr. could call it by its proper name, the P-08. I read somewhere that Stoeger actually manufactured some Lugers in the 50s or 60s. There is a gunsmith in Germany that refurbishes/reassembles Lugers from old stock. Can't remember his name, although he was mentioned here on CGN not that long ago; I forgot to bookmark his website. From what I remember he does very fine work.
