I just recently picked up a new Norinco Commander, my first 1911 and I am a little bit in the dark when it comes to the parts for these guns. It seems like a pretty nice gun so far. I have heard in the past that Norinco owners have had the odd part break such as a firing pin, etc. I wouldn't mind picking up a few critical parts such as a firing pin, springs etc.

The question I have is, are the internals of a commander, specifically a Norinco commander the same as a government model? When I look at the parts listed on Brownells they show firing pins for series 70/80, springfield, etc. Is there something I should be specifically looking for?

I don't plan on ordering duplicate parts for everything, as I said, just for the parts that would have a greater chance of breaking. Firing pin and spring come to mind first, also possibly the sear spring. Are there any other parts that a person should add to the list?

My paranoia of not having a replacement part comes from a recent gun malfunction that took over 4 months for me to get a replacement part for so I am doing some preventative planning.

Springs for Commanders are slightly different (Wolffe ships to Canada and their springs are terrific and the correct weight), most stuff for Norcs is actually Series 70, or pre-series 70 - the Commander bushing is different than the full size, and Norc grip screw bushings (not the grip screws, but the bushings they screw into) are odd ball. It sounds dumb, but in reality the Chinese are some of the last people producing the 1911 pattern pistol as it was designed.

Because the 1911 is the most popular pistol in the world and because the Norc is all Colt dimesnions, it is propbably the easiest gun to get a spare part for.

Now a Taurus - that is a different ball of wax.
