Hello all. I have a norinco cq 311 (ar-15 clone). I quite enjoy it for it being a Chinese knock off. However my gas block/sight tower got damaged and I am now in need of a replacement. And guess what? Modern norinco sight towers wont work on the CQ311 because they are not using standard barrels anymore. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a replacement or at least something that will work. (ie..quad rail gas block etc..)

Thanks for letting me pick your brains.

Using my google-foo:
...the measurements from a diagram on page 352 of The Black Rifle. The M16A1 barrel is 0.675" tapering down to 0.600" behind the front sight, 0.625" under the front sight, and 0.575" in front of the front sight. The M16A2 barrel is 0.675" tapering down to 0.630" behind the front sight, 0.730" under the front sight, and 0.715" in front of the front sight. For the HBAR, for the muzzle to one-inch down, it's 0.680". Then it's 0.725" to the front sight. it's 0.750" under the front sight. From the front sight to 17.250" down the barrel, it's 0.870". From there to 18.500", it is 0.950" in diameter. Afterwards, it's 0.980" in diameter.
The Norinco CQ311 should be a copy of the M16A1 (at least mine was). Ergo, as a guess, I'd say it was 0.625" under the front sight. That said, get a pair of calipers and make sure. Ordering an M16 original or M16A1 "skinny barrel" front sight should do the trick.
