I have a Norinco CQ-311 and some of the blue "paint" is wearing off, can this rifle be parkerized or do I have to spray a finish on?

You can't park it. I bad a friend blast the finish off mine, and I airbrushed it with GunKote. GunKote is a Bake on finish, and it turns out well, I was very happy with the result.

The shine you see on the last photo is from Oil I didn't get all wiped off after I baked it.

Finished Gun - I went OD on receiver, and black on barrel and FSB , C/H and Delta ring. I would probable do all OD if I had my time back.

The whole process is too long to go into here, but if you want to go this route, PM me i'll run you thru what I did.

Don't worry about blasting it... just laquer thinner clean it... and paint overtop.
I use Armacoat.

I've painted several firearms now and very happy with the results.

I just did my 870 yesterday and it looks hot!!

Paint it for the quick and easy route. If ya wanna go the "authentic" route you can get the upper and lower receiver annodized and the steel parts park'd.

It's really a matter of how much time and money you're willing to put into your project. Personally, I'd just paint it for now.

Arcticgunnut: I think I would like to color it Colt Black, I have looked on duracoats web site and I think they call it Combat Black and on armacoat's it is Matte Black. How hard was it to remove the barrel from the upper? I think I want a Vietnam era A1 look so I will look for some triangle handguards while I am at it.

hunter64,

Not hard to remove, just need a castle nut wrench, I have the DPMS marked one I bought off ebay. If your going with triangular HG, you will have to replace the end cap thing, its attatched to the FSB on the norks, my friend had to cut his off, and ruined it. His looks goot with the triangular HG, and A1 length stock.

I think GunKote has a color called Colt Grey

The most durable finish would be to have it type III hard coat anodized, same finish the military uses. Contact ARWEN ACE and he'll take care of you.

Of course this might cost more than you're willing to spend on a norc, then again, guys are taking $400 M305's and easily spending more than a grand on parts.

Dlask refinished my Norc lowers in Anodising.
They came out great ... match perfectly to my Olympic Arms uppers.
I've also used the bake on paints [ Guncote ] on alloy uppers with great results

ArcticGunNut: So if the front of the end cap is different and your friend broke it off, did he have to buy a new front sight base or can you buy a correct one and attach it somehow to the norc one?
