I have a Norinco CQ 5.56 on the way. I want to change the handguard rail to a Quad rail system. Does anyone know what lenght I need (I want to order it before my carbine arrives) and anything else I need to know. Your help would be appreciated.

I think you would order the carbine length. (6 or 7" maybe?)

A lot of folks would recommend you get a special tool to help you with the D-ring. It can be a real pain to work with.

7" Carbine length hand guard will swap in. I put a DD Lite on mine (I did removed the front sight to do so). I believe MOST free floating hard guards will require the front sight to be removed, but there are some like the DD Omega that don't. Of course most of the non-free floating do not require the front sight to be removed.

In addition to the Omega, there are also rails from Midwest and Troy that don't require removal of the front sight/ gas block for installation. The carbine length rail is 7". If you're using the Troy or Midwest Rails you'll have to remove the handguards (pull back HARD on the delta ring, the handguards seperate into bottom and top halves, slip the back out first then the front will just pull back and off) and cut off the delta ring, weld spring and c-clip. It takes about a half hour and all you'll need is a Dremel. Another advantage of the free float rail is that you get a full length top rail to work with for optics, etc.
