I have someone wanting to sell me a Norinco CQ-A 5.56 that is 2006 vintage ... apparently only 100 rounds thru it and zero problems ... or so I am told ... it has a few extras but nothing really expensive ... I have not shot it yet.

I have read that some of the earlier ones were not anodized and the finish would come off in flakes when bumped ... is that true ... and would this vintage be that flaky coating or anodized?

What should I expect to pay for it?

I am not a hard core rifle shooter, just plink for fun a few times a year ... I doubt I'll put more than a couple thousand rounds thru it if that.

Should last that long shouldn't it?

Thanks

Unless you absolutely steal it I'm not sure what the value is over buying a new norc... Reliable has a sale this weekend and with Christmas coming marstar and Canada ammo will doubtless have deals on them as well

I'm pretty sure a non-anodized upper wouldn't last too long, so therefore I'd have to say it is. I don't think anyone can complain about the alloy quality used except that it's too tough and causes problems modifying the rifle. As for the finish I had a CQ-A three years back that was manufactured around 2006. The surface prep could have been better before they covered up the bare metal, but it stayed bonded to the it.

I think most would agree that the Chinese rifles can suffer from a bit more QC problems than anything made in North America but if you get a good one (and most are) they are a great bargain.

you can get them for $500 on sale and your talking about a 8yr old gun so if i was gonna look at it for a price id wouldnt pay more then 2-300 i dont care how little the guy claims to have used it.

if you can get into it for that much then who cares if its painted or anod, spray bomb it with Kryo if ya ever need too.
get it cheap, learn the platform and see if you like it, if so then upsize to something nice, if no then your not out much.
i did the same, picked one up and enjoyed it, another came my way that a friend was clearing out at a steal so i picked it up for a extra / parts.
if i never shoot them again i dont care, for the couple hundred bucks im into them for i learned the AR platform and was able to find what i liked and didnt like and what i wanted and then went and looked for a quality one with what i wanted on it.
