Norinco CQ-a / M4 registration as Poly Technologies

Okay guys I heard mention of at least some other people having this problem.

I was sent registration for my Norinco CQ-a (the M4). I purchased from Marstar. The registration had it listed as a Poly Technologies, which is incorrect, as the folks at my gun shop advised me, Poly Technologies is a competing manufacturer to Norinco. This information is backed up as per the wikipedia page for Poly Tech.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poly_Technologies

I called the firearms program, and after some searching the agent found a listing in their system as the Norinco CQ-a1, which she identified as an AR variant. I don't know about the "1" but I told her to change the registration to reflect this since I know Poly Technologies is definitely wrong.

Have I done the right thing? Has anyone else had this problem?

That must have been the case, at least for one batch of rifles shipped from Marstar, but their system DOES have a listing for Norinco CQ-a, and since Poly Tech is a competing manufacturer to Norinco, and the rifle itself is stamped Norinco... i don't see how that can be correct.

I was told there may be problems selling the rifle in future because the registration is wrong.

mine is registered as Poly tech........

had nothing to do with me.

I assumed norinco and poly tech were ~ the same.

So am I a criminal now that they messed up? Should i be phoning in to correct them?

Don't know, thats kinda why I created this thread, hoping someone has expert advice, maybe John from Marstar or other dealers could chime in here. I chose to change mine, because I don't have a Poly Tech so thats not right.

Don't tie yourself up in knots. The deeper you look, the more you find that what you think you know about the Chinese arms business is actually wrong. If the serial number and description is correct, don't sweat it. The gun's registration was created at importation. One would assume the CFC and the importer are likely to have an interest in getting the registration right.

poly and norinco are both divisions of the Chinese government. They are not in competition. Who cares... All weapons manufacturing in China is highly government regulated.

I hear you guys but it doesn't really help me in knowing if the registration is wrong or what. Do you think I am okay in having changed it?

How does this information ever affect me at all, unless an officer inspects my stuff and realizes I have a rifle stamped "NORINCO" right on the side, and I don't have any registration showing I own a Norinco. Is he going to know all this magic about Poly Technologies and the organization of the Chinese firearms manufacturing industry? No, he's just going to cause problems for me most likely.

If they are going to have this stupid registration rifle system, it should effing work properly. Just casually screwing off and putting "whatever" "semi-automatic" on the registration makes me think this is entirely an exercise is bull#### that should be scrapped, even for restricted guns. If the info doesn't even have to be remotely correct, who gives a flying f.

What does it matter? Some of you guys lose sleep over the most ridiculous little things.

Almost as bad as the guy getting all pissy that the Tavor is listed as "commercial version" on the registration.

From what I heard if the CFC makes a mistake its up to me to find it and fix it as I am responsible for their mistakes and can be charged or perhaps lose my firearm (s).

Assuming disarmament is a goal of the CFC one could fathom it was intentional.

Sorry for my lack of faith in the RCMP / CFC but ive seen some of the crap stastics they fund/come up with that would promote the idea that man + gun = domestic violence towards women and children. Lies like that make me assume they dont want any civilians to own any firearms.

Yah I hear you lol. Its conceivably possible, that they could seize ARs in the future citing improper registration. I mean I'm sure that would go over in a court.

AFAIK mine is fixed now, instead of fuxed. Unless I don't have a Norinco CQa "1", but I'm pretty sure I do. I'm pretty surprised with all the new owners of these that no one else has really even expressed that they think this is an issue. Oh well
