I shot my new Norinco CQ today / first time. Cycled great. Sights need to be tweeked and I deff need a brass catch, however I am very happy with it so far. Quite a bit more kick than I thaought it would have.
Does anyone have any tips on mods / accessories who own a Norc CQ?

I have the bug real bad. I just bought an NP-40 last month. How do I propose to get a CQ to my wife so soon? Oh to dream. You're a very lucky man.

I only fired 20 or so rounds with my Norc M4 purchased last year. That'll will change very soon though. I'm almost ready to reload it. Kick feels very pleasant to me compared to say Russian SKS.

The only thing I want is a decent scope that can go 300 yards. Not sure what to buy yet. I like something with lots of zoom. I think at least 24x or whatever I used last time I shot 300 yards with and I forgot.

I've done a ton of stuff to my Norc, but I think the most productive change I made was to swap the trigger/hammer/safety sear out for a one from a Stag parts kit. Putting a decent trigger in the rifle makes it much easier to hit what you're shooting at. The second best result for the cost was to replace the grip, the stock grip will end up driving you nuts, find one that fits your hand and don't look back. Beyond these 2 basic changes I'd say buy ammo (lots of ammo) then reloading gear (a Lee turret would be perfect). Oh yes, one final hint - they make a spray bottle of Break Free, that's for when your AR gets really grungy and stops cycling smoothly, you just spray the bolt group and go back to shooting - you need one (or at least you will)

You did it in the wrong order. Tell her with a straight face that it was either the Stag, or the Norc and a buy 1, get 1 free pistol

NoelB They say it's easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. Buy it. Tell her it's like money in the bank. You can sell if you need to. Good luck

I bought Glock 29 and M4 in one month. M4 is coming today and Glock came on Friday... I told my GF I can buy whatever I want with my money :)

shot 120 rds through mine for first time yesterday. This is one awesome rifle. My sks is up for sale, and most likely my CZ858 will follow. Its like shooting a BB gun with really big accurate bullets.

Parts came from a Lower Parts Kit (LPK) that I happened to have lying around, but if you go to any of the AR parts suppliers you'll find various combinations of parts packaged seperately. As far as the parts fit went, I wanted to use the entire fire control group (trigger, hammer, safety sear, selector) but the slightly 'off' ambi safety that uses the RHS lever to hold things together got in the way. The solution was to turn the lever 180 and screw it back down. There are some issues with small parts fit on the Norcs, mostly springs and detents, but the trigger/hammer/safety sear shouldn't be one. As far as working on an AR lower, you don't even need a good book - if you haven't already, go to AR15 dot com and check out the videos they have posted, I built my first lower on my lunch break with a parts kit, a stripped lower and the videos on ARF. The AR lower is a walk in the park.
PS Questar/ArmsEast/TSE/PD/Wolverine and the vast majority of the sponsors here are terrific sources of both parts and information - just ask when you're ordering and they'll steer you in the right direction

so the CQ is the M4???, if so im looking at purchasing one from badger arms.

CQ is turning into a generic name for the Norincos - I may be mistaken (correct me if wrong), but the original CQ was a full-length AR-15, and the CQ 556A is the M4 Carbine. I've got a fairly recent "M-Forgery" - love it.

Odds are good Badger would be talking about the 556A.

I've heard on the forums that the Rock River Arms (RRA) trigger kit is a good one for the price, and can be found on most CGN AR vendor sites.

CQ-A or CQ Type A is the official designation. "CQ-A" is on the most recent receiver stampings.
