I own a Norinco CQ & put roughly 300 rnds through it. I like the rifle, it seems to be very accurate (despite the rear sight being a piece of s&#t).
I find it solid and would buy a 2nd.

My question is should I invest money parts wise to build a better AR?

Does anyone have first hand experience (no Norinco haters please) moding a CQ.

My AR knowledge is also limited to handling my CQ. Would swapping out the receiver for something better or finding a good new / used upper be worth the time & money.

I love Norinco, however I am wondering if a more wise purchase would be NEA or CORE and call it a day.
 
Norinco is a good starter AR15

I wouldn't invest in one to up grade it. It's a deal for 675$ but if you put 5,6,700$ on it there is no deal anymore....
 
I'm just putting Magpul stuff on it that can be taken off later for the next rifle if I ever want to resell it. No permanent mods on the Norc M4 or at least reinstall the stock parts back on.
I don't see a problem putting a different upper on a Norc too. It can be swapped out again.
 
FWIW I put an 11.5 inch LMT barrel that I had kicking around on, with a 10 inch YHM rail, and a PWS KAC brake that I got off the EE. I had a friend who is knowledgeable about these things, put it together and work his magic on the trigger, which is the best single stage trigger I've ever used. Then I painted it. It's my 2nd favorite rifle.
 
I am trying to achieve the look and function I want without putting to much money into my CQ. So far I only put on magpul BUIS, MIAD grip and a Lucid HD7 red dot. I'm going to be putting on a FF rail next. I'm not planning on purchasing another AR for quite some time but if I do, like lejarretnoir said, you can always put the parts on the next rifle or sell the parts seperately.
 
i have both a 14.5 and 10.5 norc. i would rather get a cupple of them and set them up all different then to get one expensive AR. plus the norc being mill spec it can take most any parts out there.

with mine i upgraded just the little things. spikes buffer,accu-wedge, rail forend and sights. its a fun gun to learn on.

its a good gun.i wouldent sell it short.
 
i did a Norinco up just for fun and it turned out pretty slick... but i already own all the toys (H&K, LMT, Noveske, RFB, Tavor, etc..) so it was more just to see how it would turn out and not as a go-to firearm. I would suggest that if you have had fun with your Norinco, save up for a top tier AR and don't look back.

It's not mil-spec.
