Norinco CQ5.56 M4 - Anyone paint there's yet?

the paint was one of the only things that turned me off about this rifle. I figured if I bought it and duracoated it to remove the crappy stock finish, this would be one hell of a rifle for the price! I'd also like to see some re-finished ones here!
 
The finish on mine is fine. Doesn't need any recoating.
The couple I've seen appear to pass close inspection with no problems.
Had some paint on the trigger and fire controls but 5 minutes with my finger nail removed the paint. Perfectly blued/anodized underneath.

The question is, is this a US upper on a Chinese lower, or a Chinese upper on a US lower

There's no prize for being right (it's a 50/50 chance after all) and don't go by the controls, I may have switched them out, ditto the BCG. The finish from upper to lower here is virtually indistinguishable.

You're right of course, but the barrel finish is actually not as bad as it looks in the photo (and the lower is an Armalite). To be honest, I did get to go through a dozen CQ's to pick the one I wanted, so the finish on mine may be better than others. That said, the Norcalite combination doesn't look totally wrong in person, at the range people who've handled it (and who own AR's) have been surprised to find out it didn't come from Armalite as a complete rifle. It shoots fine either with the Norc lower or the Armalite lower - it's never FTF'd or FTE'd and it shoots into 2 inches at 100 yards with me shooting. Flawless reliability, decent accuracy and under $1000. Quit worrying about how they look and shoot the darned things. Spend the refinish money on ammo or reloading dies, you'll get more out of it.

I agree. If the gun fires properly, then it's a good gun in my book, regardless of the finish. If it's prone to jamming and misfiring then it's an unreliable weapon. I think I just might get one of these eventually. :)

Next stop is Ellwood Epps, I understand he has them in stock, so it will be time to go and see one in person.....

Hey who knows if the rifle looks as good in person as it does in your pictures, I will be coming home with one for sure......
